– In the MotoGP 2026 season race calendar, there is currently a summer break. The break falls exactly at the halfway point of the season. This year, we are once again taking the opportunity to look at the crash statistics.

11 race weekends were completed in the months of March to July, 11 more are still planned for the months of August to November (MotoGP calendar 2026). The big surprise right away. At the halfway point of the season, it’s not Honda factory rider Joan Mir who leads the crash statistics, but actually another rider!
Table leader Jorge Martin also leads crash statistics
Aprilia factory rider Jorge Martin recorded 16 crashes in the first half of the season across all sessions. This means that at the halfway point of the season, the leader of the 2026 MotoGP rider standings is also the leader of the crash statistics.
Joan Mir follows in second place with 15 crashes. Franco Morbidelli (VR46-Ducati) has crashed 13 times so far this season, making him third in the current crash statistics. Martin, Mir, Morbidelli have all competed in all race weekends of the first half of the season. However, this is by no means true for all riders in the field.
Alex Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi, and Marc Marquez have all crashed in double digits so far this season, even though they had to miss several races. In most cases, injuries were the reason, but for Bezzecchi, a non-start on a race Sunday was once due to a suspension.
Raul Fernandez with fewest crashes of all regular riders
An Aprilia rider leads the crash statistics at the halfway point of the season, namely Jorge Martin. Another Aprilia rider is the regular rider with the fewest crashes. It is Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez with two crashes, having competed in all 11 race weekends so far in 2026.
One of Fernandez’s two crashes was completely unprovoked. It was his involvement in the start crash triggered by Jorge Martin at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Balaton Park. The only other time Fernandez crashed so far this season was in the Sprint of the French weekend in Le Mans.
Yamaha factory rider Fabio Quartararo, who regularly appeared low in the crash statistics in previous years due to rarely crashing, is also doing well at the halfway point of 2026 with currently three crashes. Teammate Alex Rins has also gone down relatively rarely with four crashes.

The big question is whether Quartararo will be able to maintain his positive trend when he starts for the Honda factory team from 2027. Honda riders have regularly been found far up in the MotoGP crash statistics in the recent past.
In 2025 and 2023, a Honda rider was even at the very top of the crash statistics, but not in 2024. MotoGP crash statistics from before 2023 inevitably do not include Sprints, as these short Saturday races have only existed since 2023.
28 crashes in Austin, more than in Le Mans
Regarding the tracks, at the halfway point of the 2026 season, for once, Le Mans in France is not the one with the most crashes. Instead, this year it is the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, host of the US Grand Prix.
In Austin, there were the most incidents in both the premier class MotoGP – 28 crashes – and across all three World Championship classes combined – 73 crashes. For comparison: In Le Mans this year, thanks in no small part to the good weather, there were “only” 19 crashes by MotoGP riders, and a total of 60 crashes across all three World Championship classes (MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3).
The race weekend with the fewest crashes in the first half of the season in the MotoGP class was the Thailand weekend in Buriram, where only seven crashes were counted. Across all classes, it was the Italian weekend in Mugello with 22 crashes.
Overall, in the first half of the 2026 season, there were almost 500 crashes across all three World Championship classes, specifically 494. Of these, almost 200, namely 186 crashes, occurred in the premier class MotoGP. These are distributed among 28 riders (22 regular riders plus six substitute riders or wildcard entrants).
