– Sebastien Buemi will end his career in Formula E at the conclusion of the upcoming London E-Prix to take on an advisory role at Envision Racing, as announced.

The Swiss driver thus draws a line under a brilliant time in the all-electric racing series after twelve seasons in which he celebrated 14 wins, 36 podiums, 17 pole positions, and the driver title in the 2015/16 season.
Speculation about Buemi’s future in Formula E had been ongoing for several months, as the original calendar for the 2026/27 racing series included two clashes with the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Advisor instead of driver
Although Formula E has since rescheduled the Monaco race in 2027, leaving only one scheduling conflict between the two series, Buemi will still turn his back on the championship to fully focus on his Hypercar commitments.
However, he will remain connected to Envision by taking on an advisory and development role before the start of the Gen4 era of Formula E.
The news of his departure was made official on Thursday, just twelve hours after the Chinese team announced that Joel Eriksson will also vacate his cockpit at the end of the current season. This means the team will start next year with a completely new driver lineup.

“That was a difficult decision, especially considering what both Seb and Joel have done for our team,” says team principal Sylvain Filippi.
“Looking ahead to Gen4 and an increasingly demanding Formula E calendar, we are entering an important development phase for the team. Seb’s experience will continue to be valuable to us, and we are pleased that he will continue to support Envision in an advisory and development capacity.”

The star from the very beginning
Buemi was one of the biggest stars of the championship in its early years and was emblematic of the Renault team, from which the Nissan factory team later emerged.
After winning the title already in the second season of the then young electric racing series, Buemi remained a main contender for the championship. However, a scheduling conflict with his WEC commitments forced him to miss the double-header in New York, which ultimately made the difference between winning the title and finishing second overall.
In the following seasons, he stayed at the top with Renault and Nissan but made the bold decision in 2023 to leave a factory team and join the Jaguar customer team Envision.
Buemi always stayed on track
Although he could no longer quite reach his earlier peak form, Buemi continued to occasionally reach the podium and returned to the winner’s circle last year when he won the Monaco E-Prix. The 2025/26 season marks Buemi’s fourth and final with Envision.
Buemi will not be the only veteran of Formula E to hang up his helmet in the racing series. Lucas di Grassi, champion of the 2016/17 season and also present since the series’ inception, announced his upcoming departure already in April.
