After this sprint Saturday, the score is 1:0 for Marc Marquez in Misano. The Aprilia factory duo was outmatched by the Ducati rider today. Whether the world champion can also implement this over the full race distance tomorrow and celebrate his second double victory in a row after Aragon remains to be seen.

Marc Marquez (Ducati/1st): “Right from the start, the plan was to lead the race. I was on the medium tire, while Bezzecchi had the soft. In the first lap, it was a bit dangerous, like in Aragon.”

“After that, I tried to apply pressure. I was able to create a gap and tried to relax a bit. Then I saw Marco coming closer again. So I attacked once more in the last lap because the pace was there. I just tried to control the risk. I am very happy about this win, but the most important thing comes tomorrow.”

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia/2nd): “I am very, very happy. My best result in the sprint, finally better than third place. This is a great result. I am very happy, first the pole position and then on the podium in the sprint … So fantastic for me. Very good work from the team and we are ready for tomorrow.”

Jorge Martin (Aprilia/3rd): “It was overall a difficult race and a difficult weekend. We improve with every run. The start was definitely good, but starting from fifth place, so not quite at the back, but from fifth position, was difficult.”

“With the medium tire, I then had problems overtaking Fabio [Di Giannantonio] because he was on the soft tire. Honestly, it was difficult to find a suitable spot. I didn’t want to risk too much when overtaking. So yes, I am very satisfied with the team’s work. I am happy to have managed this here in Misano and hope we can improve a bit more tomorrow.”

Bezzecchi gives up in the last two laps and no longer catches up. Marc Marquez wins the sprint with a 1.068 second lead. It is his sixth sprint win of the season. Martin finishes third but loses some points in the championship to the pursuers. Marquez is now only 14 points behind.

Di Giannantonio and Alex Marquez round out the top 5. Acosta, Fernandez, Aldeguer, and Marini collect the remaining points. Zarco completes the top 10.

Marc Marquez responds with a fastest race lap of 1:30.734 minutes and can thus gain some breathing room again. With this, he may have made the decisive meters to secure the victory over Bezzecchi.

Three laps to go. Just over half a second separates Marc Marquez and Bezzecchi. The Aprilia rider is creeping closer and closer. Will there still be a duel here?

Now Bezzecchi pushes and the gap has shrunk again to seven tenths. Five laps remain. The order in the points positions: Marc Marquez, Bezzecchi, Martin, Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez, Acosta, Fernandez, Aldeguer, and Marini.

We are in lap seven and Martin can finally get ahead of Di Giannantonio in turn 8. That makes him third now. Up front, Marc Marquez has pulled further away from Bezzecchi with a new fastest race lap. The lead: just over one second.

After four laps, it seems Marc Marquez has now broken Bezzecchi. The gap has grown to eight tenths for the moment. Di Giannantonio is third but is being watched by Martin, and Alex Marquez is not far behind either.

There is tight fighting in the chasing pack. Aldeguer and Acosta get in each other’s way, Alex Marquez takes the chance and passes both at once. Up front, Marc Marquez can only slowly pull away from Bezzecchi. The latter keeps closing in the third sector.

Further back in the field, Quartararo crashed after contact with Moreira. The Yamaha rider has resumed the race but is now last.

Marc Marquez holds the lead in the first lap, with Bezzecchi right behind him. Diggia is third. Aldeguer has lost places and has fallen behind Martin and Acosta. Alex Marquez is in seventh place, followed by Fernandez, Marini, and Moreira, who has gained five places.

Marc Marquez passes Bezzecchi in turn 1. Aldeguer holds third place but is already being pressured by Di Giannantonio. Everyone gets through well.

Jorge Martin has also switched to the medium rear tire. That means in the top 10, he, Marc Marquez, Alex Marquez, and Raul Fernandez are now on it.

All agree on the front tire and use Michelin’s medium compound. The soft compound dominates the rear tire, but occasionally we also see the medium, for example with Marc and Alex Marquez as well as Raul Fernandez.
