During qualifying, the “Green Hell” quickly dried and allowed for fast lap times. However, a crash on the Breidscheider Bridge interrupted the time attack, involving two SP9 vehicles: the KCMG Mercedes #47 (Fukuzumi/Tsuboi; 22nd) and the RaceIng Audi #14 (Karawassili/Harrison/Panu; 14th). (Results)
With 20 minutes remaining and all Code-60 zones lifted, the time attack really got going. Twelve vehicles broke the 8-minute barrier in the final sprint. The fastest was Tim Heinemann in the Falken Porsche #44 (Heinemann/M. Schuring; 1st), who will try to make up for the narrowly missed victory on Saturday during the race.
“I’ve been driving up here for a few years, but I never had such a clear lap. There was really no traffic and I got a good lap. I didn’t expect it to be so close in the end. I think it was a perfect lap,” said the former DTM driver after the time attack.
It was close in the truest sense of the word, as Tobias Müller in the Black Falcon Porsche #48 (Assenheimer/T. Müller/Pereira; 2nd) was only 0.023 seconds behind the pole time and secured a clear pole in SP9 Pro-Am.

Starting from third place is the Dunlop Porsche #17 (Menzel/F. Schuring). Nico Menzel’s last-second attempt to grab pole was prevented by a yellow flag in the Adenauer Forst area. He shares the second row with the HRT Ford #64 (Stippler/Kolb; 4th). All four vehicles finished within 0.460 seconds.
The previous day’s winners in the Schubert BMW #77 (Klingmann/de Wilde/Pepper; 5th) start the race from the third row, where the Max Kruse Audi #11 (Lenz/Kohlhaas/Zulauf; 6th), the fastest vehicle in the AT1 class, also qualified.
Moritz Kranz also tried at the last second to take advantage of the optimal track conditions, but he had the same yellow flag as Menzel, so the Gamota BMW #23 (Zsigo/Kranz/Jahn; 7th) must line up in the fourth row. He shares this row with the Black Falcon Porsche #5 (Arrow/Kaya/Stursberg; 8th), the fastest vehicle in SP9 Am.
A drama also unfolded around the Car Collection Audi #22 (Spengler/Hantke/Jöns), which crashed early on while the track was still wet in the Fuchsröhre area. Car Collection Motorsport performed an emergency repair beside the track and made the car drivable again, allowing it to limp back to the pits. The team hopes to restart from the pit lane for the second part of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II comeback.
