This year’s San Marino Grand Prix has broken a record. A total of 184,051 fans followed the MotoGP weekend on site, more than ever before at a Grand Prix at the Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

On Sunday alone, 96,485 spectators came to the track, on Saturday it was 54,059. Even before the actual race weekend, 33,507 visitors were counted.

Marc Marquez (Ducati/1st): “It really feels incredible. But you must never give up. I will push until the end. The matter is not decided yet, but we are in the middle of it. We are fighting in the championship against very strong riders, especially against Martin and Bezzecchi.”

“As we saw today, we are riding at the limit, and a small mistake can cost many points. Today it was such that after Bezzecchi’s mistake in the race, I was a bit too confident and Martin then attacked me. But afterwards, I regained my confidence, kept the pace, and I am happy. These 37 points here in Misano mean a lot.”

Alex Marquez (Gresini-Ducati/2nd): “After qualifying yesterday in ninth place, I thought we had thrown away our weekend. But there was still everything possible. In the race, I had a good start and already in the warm-up a good feeling and the necessary speed.”

“In the race, I then started to attack. It is true that it was really difficult to attack Marc because his last sector was incredible. But in the race, I was able to attack, defend myself, and keep the right man behind me until the end. I am really happy and it is a real honor to wear these colors here. This podium is for Marco Simoncelli.”

Pedro Acosta (KTM/3rd): “I put quite a bit of pressure on my people. Because today I was super angry after the warm-up, because it was quite a disaster again. I then told the guys, especially Pit: ‘Buddy, if you give me what I need, then I will make it.’ But no matter, I am happy. The pace was good, the bike worked quite well. We are still missing a bit in the fast sectors, but nevertheless, we have to be satisfied.”

It remains the same: Marc Marquez safely brings the victory home and celebrates the next double success after Aragon. With this, he takes the championship lead for the first time this season! Alex Marquez finishes second. A strong Acosta completes the podium. Aldeguer takes fourth place ahead of Martin.

Fernandez, Diggia, Bastianini, Marini, and Quartararo round off the top 10. Binder, Razgatlioglu, Morbidelli, and Espargaro collect the remaining points. Only 14 riders finish after Zarco also crashed late.

Three laps to go. Marc and Alex Marquez are riding almost identical lap times. The gap is just over half a second. Acosta is getting a bit closer but cannot (yet) intervene in the fight for the win with just over a second behind. No one can afford mistakes in the final phase here.

Will it get exciting here in the fight for the win? With five laps to go, Marc Marquez’s lead has shrunk significantly. Alex has closed to four tenths. Is there a brother duel here?

Martin loses the next position to Aldeguer and is now only fifth. If Marc Marquez wins, it would mean that both stand at 274 points in the championship. However, Marquez would lead with more wins on his account.

The last ten laps of the race are underway. Marc Marquez leads just over a second ahead of brother Alex. Acosta follows one and a half seconds behind. Martin is fourth, but Aldeguer is pressing from behind. With some gap, Fernandez, Marini, Di Giannantonio, Bastianini, and Quartararo occupy the remaining top-10 places.

Rins has stopped his Yamaha, apparently a technical problem. That leaves only 15 riders on track, meaning all will score points today.

Not long ago still in the lead, Acosta now pushes Martin off the podium and takes third place. Did Martin possibly overuse his tires too quickly in the first half of the race? He cannot defend himself here.

With a clear track, Marc Marquez can immediately pull away by a few tenths. Behind him, Martin has to yield to the next Marquez brother, Alex passes. And more trouble threatens, as Acosta has caught up and is sniffing at the podium. How quickly the order can change within a few laps…

Lap 12 of 27 and Marc Marquez takes the lead back from Martin. Martin now has to secure his position from behind, as Alex Marquez is putting pressure.

Is Marc Marquez simply managing his energy cleverly? It certainly seems like he can increase his personal pace again, as the gap to Martin has gotten smaller. Marc is back in touch. The top 3 are now separated by barely half a second.

We talked earlier about Mir’s impaired physical condition. Now the Honda rider has parked his bike in the garage. That leaves 16 riders still in the race.
