(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – The Italian car manufacturer is preparing the launch of the Fiat Grizzly and the Grizzly Fastback to increase its competitiveness in Europe and Brazil. The new SUV models, which are about to premiere at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, are based on proven group technology and aim to regain lost market shares. Especially after the rather muted response to the Fiat 600, hopes now rest on these two newcomers.

Both have already appeared on the official European Fiat channels – ahead of the premiere planned for next month at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback are two key models for Fiat – not only in Europe, where the brand needs a more modern and competitive lineup, but also in Brazil, its most important market.
Based on the Citroën C3 Aircross and the Opel Frontera as well as – in the case of the Grizzly Fastback – the Citroën Basalt, the two newcomers are intended to help Fiat achieve higher sales again after the rather disappointing results of the Fiat 600.
Mixed Results
After the merger into Stellantis, the group decided to rely more on the Smart Car Platform (SCP) – an architecture that the former PSA group developed together with Tata Consultancy Services.
It is used in the models of the Citroën C-Cubed family, i.e., in the new generations of C3, C3 Aircross, and Basalt, as well as in the Opel Frontera, which replaces the Crossland. With FCA’s entry into the group, the platform could finally be extended to future Fiat models as well.
However, the results of the Citroën models vary greatly depending on the market. In Europe, the C3 and C3 Aircross accounted for almost two-thirds of Citroën registrations in the first half of 2026. Volumes increased by 24 percent, mainly thanks to the strong performance of the C3 Aircross. On the other side of the Atlantic, however, the picture is significantly less positive.

In Brazil, Citroën sold a total of 16,400 units of the C3, Aircross – this name was chosen to initiate a turnaround after disappointing results – and Basalt in the first six months of the year. Although the three models accounted for almost the entire brand’s sales in the country, the result was 14 percent below the value of the corresponding period in 2025.

The positioning of the C3 as an affordable model makes competition difficult with the Fiat models that are extremely popular in the Brazilian market, while the C3 Aircross never really gained momentum.
In contrast, the balance sheet for the Opel Frontera in Europe is more positive. In the first six months of 2026, Opel put around 44,000 units on the road. This made the Frontera the second best-selling model of the brand after the Corsa and ahead of the Mokka. The SUV alone accounted for 19 percent of all Opel registrations.
The Fiat Grizzly is likely to secure an interesting share of the still small market for seven-seater B-SUVs, at least in Italy. However, the risk exists that it will draw customers away from the Fiat 600 – a more compact model that is also expected to be positioned at a higher price.
The Grizzly Fastback, in turn, leads Fiat into a completely new segment in Europe, while in Brazil it is expected to take over the legacy of the current Fastback. For Fiat, the future in Europe thus largely depends on exactly these two new models.
