(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – That was quick: the new electric entry from Ingolstadt, the Audi A2 e-tron, has now officially landed in the configurator and is shown there in its most purist form. For a starting price of 38,200 euros, buyers receive the five-door electric car in plain Arkona white and with a cabin reduced to the essentials. While it is not technically the cheapest car of the brand, it is the most affordable electric car in the lineup.

While all press images show the compact electric five-door with numerous extras, here we see screenshots from the German configurator: an A2 e-tron without a single extra checked.
As expected, it looks less attractive than the better-equipped versions, but still has its charm. This spartan configuration relies on solid paint in “Arkona white,” 18-inch wheels, and LED headlights without matrix function.
Lots of black in the interior
As you might expect, the interior is not particularly exciting. With an almost completely black appearance and fabric seats, it does not exactly feel premium, let alone luxurious. And as with the better-equipped A2 e-tron models from the configurator, the massive display borders, known from many current Audi models and reminiscent of early smartphones, are also distracting here.
On the plus side, there is a two-zone automatic climate control and ambient lighting, which Audi supplies as standard. Navigation, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, as well as inductive charging for smartphones, are also included from the factory. However, the manually adjustable front seats immediately remind you that you did not opt for the higher trim.
Technical data of the base version
Under the simply designed shell, the base A2 e-tron is powered by a single electric motor delivering 125 kW (170 hp) and 350 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. This is enough for a sprint to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, with a top speed limited to 160 km/h. The energy is supplied by a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is said to enable a range of 421 kilometers according to WLTP.

When recharging, the DC fast charging power reaches a maximum of 100 kW. This should allow the charging process from 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes; under ideal conditions, the car can recharge up to 115 kilometers of WLTP range in 10 minutes. Without additional options, this is the lightest Audi A2 e-tron on offer. Nevertheless, it still weighs a substantial 1,840 kilograms.
To put the price into perspective: at 38,200 euros, the Audi A2 e-tron in the entry-level version costs about 4,000 euros more than the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo, on which it is based. Base models from premium brands are rare, however, as buyers usually add at least some extras before the final click. Such cars often exist mainly in the configurator. They are interesting to look at nonetheless.
Admittedly, this A2 e-tron probably interests us more than it should. The vast majority of new A2s will likely be sold via leasing, where some extras are usually added. But there is a certain charm in seeing where the entry point actually lies before the options list seriously impacts the budget.
The price of 38,200 euros is anything but a bargain. And the question remains: Is the base too plain? Or quite successful? One thing is certain: in this form, you will probably rarely see an A2 e-tron.
