– After the false start to the 2026 Formula 1 season, Williams has confirmed a new signing. The traditional team from Grove announced on Thursday that Dan Milner is joining the racing team as Chief Engineer in the field of vehicle technology (“Chief Engineer – Vehicle Technology”).

Milner comes from Mercedes, where he had been under contract since 2011 and until recently, holding various positions during this period. Until his departure, he served the Brackley-based team as Chief Engineer in Research and Development.
He took his first steps in Formula 1 20 years ago at Mercedes’ predecessor team Honda, later also working for Brawn, which became the Mercedes works team in 2010. During his years in Brackley, he also worked with James Vowles, who is now Team Principal at Williams.
“After 20 years in Brackley, it’s time to take on a new challenge,” Milner explains himself and emphasizes: “Williams has a clear, ambitious plan for the future, and I look forward to contributing my experience and knowledge to help drive this path forward.”

“I can’t wait to get to know the team, integrate into the organization, and start turning ideas into performance on the track,” says Milner.

Williams Technical Director Matt Harman emphasizes: “Dan brings extensive experience and clear leadership. He has led significant projects in research and development as well as powertrains and turned ideas into concrete results.”
“He also knows how to bring teams together to achieve goals. Dan will play a central role in our vehicle technology plan and in translating innovations into consistent performance improvements on the track,” Harman announces.
A press release from the team also states: “At Williams, Dan will be responsible for the vehicle technology area and will optimize performance both on and off the track through complex, integrated technology programs.”

Williams had started the new Formula 1 era from the 2026 season with high goals, but only collected two championship points in the first three races under the new regulations and is therefore only in ninth place in the Constructors’ World Championship.
