– It’s now official: After chief engineer Richard Selwin, Timo Glock is also losing his second confidant at the McLaren team Dörr, race engineer Kevin Mirocha, whom he had brought on board himself last year. “He is not part of the DTM project,” confirms team manager Axel Funke when asked by Motorsport-Total.com, but does not rule out a continuation of the cooperation on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

At the end of 2025, Glock had shown little understanding for “why they want to make changes on my side of the garage,” but accepted that GT3 project manager Volker Strycek was “the new man” who now makes the decisions at Dörr. The position of the legendary former Opel racing director has since been further strengthened. In 2026, he will also take over the post of technical director for the McLaren squad (see updated team profile with all key personnel for the 2026 DTM season).
The 68-year-old succeeds Robin Dörr – brother of Glock’s DTM teammate Ben Dörr – who has headed the technical department of the Frankfurt-based team, which has been competing in the DTM since 2024, in recent years. How is the decision explained?
Why Robin Dörr is no longer technical director
“We have used the time since the end of the 2025 season intensively to rethink and specifically develop all areas of Dörr Motorsport GmbH,” explains sports director Jochen Albig. “The focus was not only on our DTM project, where we implemented the build-up of a powerful team, a significantly expanded testing program, and the move into new workshop premises.”
They also optimized “other activities,” “including the karting team, our customer racing projects, the driving event programs, as well as the projects for the 24h race and the GT4 entry. To strengthen all these areas with the necessary experience and continuity, we have jointly agreed that Robin will take over the management of these projects. For this reason, his function here has changed.”

Glock already worked with new race engineer at BMW
But who is Timo Glock’s new race engineer? It is the German Gerd Kusstatscher, an experienced man who has already been active in the DTM, as he looked after the car of Briton Esmee Hawkey at the then Lamborghini team T3 Motorsport in 2021.
How does the team justify the change for Glock? “Volker looked at many people and spoke with many, because we were looking for someone who brings a lot of experience,” explains Dörr team manager Funke. “In addition, Gerd has already worked with Timo – that also spoke in his favor. And he is quite a bit older than Kevin, brings a bit more experience in terms of pure engineering. Kevin comes more from driving himself – and is very strong there.”
In fact, Glock and Kusstatscher already know each other from their BMW days: Kusstatscher acted as an engineer for the Walkenhorst team in 2021 when Timo Glock, Martin Tomczyk, and Thomas Neubauer competed in the M6 GT3 at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. Dörr also already has experience with Kusstatscher through the GT4 project with the Aston Martin.
Dörr team changes workshop and relies on permanent employees
These are not the only changes: The team is moving its workshop from the industrial park in Cassellastraße in Frankfurt to the Klassikstadt just a few meters away – a listed factory site of over 16,000 square meters in Frankfurt am Main with an automotive focus.
This means the DTM team is now based in the same building that also houses Dörr Automotive – and has more representative workshop premises. In addition, the team has permanently hired three new mechanics who only look after the DTM project, meaning only two freelancers are now part of the crew. “They work permanently on the cars,” says Funke about the new permanent employees.
