Lamborghini hope after dynamometer test? "Recognized two, three things"

– The Lamborghini team Grasser tried last week on their own to solve the problems with the new Temerario GT3. From Monday to Friday, they ran an intensive program on the high-tech test bench of Team Rosberg Engineering (TRE), which is owned by former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg. What is the conclusion? “That was definitely very beneficial,” Gottfried Grasser shows with a thumbs up.

“We identified two or three things with the car where there is definitely a need for action and where we can do something.” How much can now be “taken from the test bench into real life” will be shown by the official test for the 24-hour classic in Spa taking place next week.

The facility in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, located right next to the workshop of the former DTM team, is also repeatedly used by current Formula 1 teams. Available are the highly sought-after vertical dynamics test bench in motorsport – also called the “Seven Poster” – and a K&C test bench (Kinematics & Compliance), which can measure the entire suspension.

Rutronik was already at Rosberg with Temerario before Grasser

The Grasser crew was not the first Lamborghini team in early May to look for solutions with the Temerario GT3 on the vertical dynamics test bench in Neustadt: The Rutronik team, which switched brands to Lamborghini this year and competes in the GT World Challenge Europe (GTWCE), was already at Rosberg earlier with the new vehicle.

“I understand that Rutronik and Grasser have a great interest in understanding why the vehicle is currently the way it is,” explains Philipp Premel, who acts as test field manager at TRE. “We provide the complete conditions to determine this – and of course we are working on it.”

The two test benches of the company each cost over three million euros. “The test bench offers the advantage that you can measure everything reproducibly and without wear,” says Premel. “You consume no fuel and no tires, pay no track rental, and are independent of wind and weather.”

How the “Seven Poster” simulates test drives

In addition, there are strict test restrictions during the season in the GTWCE and DTM. However, through the so-called track replay procedure, it is possible with the “Seven Poster” to play in entire race tracks and simulate the behavior of the suspension under almost real conditions in real time.

The data for this was obtained from real cars equipped with numerous sensors on the actual courses. The wheels of the vehicle are vertically stimulated by four hydraulic rams during the simulation, simulating every bump and curb. Three additional rams simulate the aerodynamics as well as the pitching and rolling behavior during braking and acceleration.

What problems do teams mainly come to TRE with? “If the vehicle does not behave as the driver would like, certain track sections are usually replayed in the track replay,” answers Premel. “There, the entire suspension setting is checked and optimized again. The race engineers then know quite precisely which click causes which changes.”

Rosberg test bench also in demand because of new DTM tire

Above all, the vertical dynamics test bench has recently been very popular in the DTM: In addition to Grasser, the Dörr team already rented it this year with the McLaren. And in summer 2025, the Abt team was a guest to better get along with the Huracan after the brand change.

It is to be expected that there will be further bookings: Because the new DTM special tire, introduced this year and used exclusively in the traditional series, still holds some secrets. Bringing it up to temperature as quickly as possible in qualifying and in the “outlap” after the stop is the key to success in the DTM, since the tires are not allowed to be heated.
