The MotoGP training Friday at the Sachsenring ended with an expected Marquez best time. Whether the reigning world champion will also have the edge tomorrow in qualifying and the sprint remains to be seen. Because the competition is not far behind.

Nothing changes at the front in the final minutes. Marc Marquez remains ahead, Fernandez holds second place ahead of Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez and Miller, who as fifth is the only Yamaha in the top 10.

Ogura improves to sixth place, behind him his Aprilia brand colleagues Bezzecchi and Martin. Acosta and Morbidelli also advance directly to Q2 in ninth and tenth place. Bastianini crashes late and narrowly misses out as eleventh. Binder and Bagnaia also miss the cut and have to go to Q1 tomorrow.

In the last run, Marc Marquez can improve again and sets the best time to 1:19.394 minutes. Fernandez also improves. He is the new second.

The field makes one last stop to get fresh tires again. There have been some changes in the standings. Both Diggia and Alex Marquez have displaced Marc Marquez from the top. He is now third – tied with Miller in fourth place. Bezzecchi, Acosta, Binder, Fernandez, Morbidelli and Martin currently occupy the remaining top 10 places for Q2 entry.

Ogura, Bagnaia and Marini follow in places eleven to thirteen. The gaps are tight. 0.886 seconds separate the 18 fastest riders in this training.

Marc Marquez steps up and marks the first 1:19 time of the weekend. He is now 0.263 seconds ahead of Di Giannantonio. Among others, Acosta, Bagnaia and Martin need to improve, who are currently outside the top 10.

15 minutes remain on the clock. The current order: Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez, Bezzecchi, Bastianini, Mir, Marini, Marc Marquez, Morbidelli, Ogura, Vinales.

The first riders attack with a set of fresh tires and thus start the time hunt. Di Giannantonio marks a new best time of 1:20.104 minutes. Bastianini pushes behind Bezzecchi into third place. Marini is the new fourth.

For the first time this Friday, Assen winner Ogura speaks up in the leading group and places himself in third place. He has mounted a fresh soft rear tire.

All riders focus on working with used tires, so there are currently no major shifts in the standings. Meanwhile, Morbidelli falls out of favor once again: He stands in Acosta’s way on his fast lap – not the first incident of this kind this season. This could have consequences for Morbidelli.

After the first ten minutes, the field heads to the pits for a first stop. Bezzecchi leads with a time of 1:20.605 minutes ahead of the two Marquez brothers, Fernandez and Acosta. Diggia, Bagnaia, Martin, Miller and Morbidelli follow behind. The top 10 are separated by 0.610 seconds.

Michelin has brought a tire set specially tuned for the Sachsenring this weekend. There are three asymmetric front tires (soft, medium, hard) and two asymmetric rear tires (soft and medium) to choose from. At the moment, almost everyone is running the hard front tire. The majority has the medium compound on the rear wheel.

The MotoGP has 60 minutes of training available this Friday afternoon as usual to prepare for the races and secure direct Q2 entry at the end. The conditions could hardly be better. The sun is shining. The thermometer has now climbed to 24 degrees in the air and 43 degrees on the asphalt.

The Moto2 training fortunately runs without major incidents. Izan Guevara tops the session with a new track record of 1:22.260 minutes, just ahead of Ivan Ortola. David Alonso is third. The IntactGP duo Senna Agius and Manuel Gonzalez round off the top 5, separated by only three tenths.

Filip Salac, Alex Escrig, Tony Arbolino, Deniz Öncü and Taiyo Furusato follow in the remaining top 10 places. Joe Roberts, Daniel Holgado, Mario Aji and Collin Veijer, who crashes late, also make it directly into Q2.

The afternoon training of Moto3 is overshadowed by some severe crashes. Right at the start, world championship leader Maximo Quiles crashes at high speed in turn 7. Shortly after, Guido Pini also goes down there, taking Adrian Cruces with him. All three can no longer participate and miss the top 14 for direct Q2 entry.

Veda Pratama sets the best time of 1:25.848 minutes. Joel Esteban is second, Eddie O’Shea third. Jesus Rios and Alvaro Carpe round off the top 5. Marco Morelli, Hakim Danish, Cormac Buchanan, Matteo Bertelle and Ryusei Yamanaka follow. Brian Uriarte, Scott Ogden, Joel Kelso and Rico Salmela also advance directly.

David Almansa does not start again due to ongoing illness, as in the morning. How the weekend continues for him remains to be seen.

Recently, reports about possible brand sales by the VW Group have been circulating, including the motorcycle brand Ducati. A spokeswoman has now confirmed that all brands and subsidiaries must face a “fundamental transformation.” There was no denial of the speculation.

According to Financial Times, consultants of the group could recommend the sale of further business areas such as Ducati. In addition, a possible partial privatization of Lamborghini is under consideration. VW has already divested some assets with the withdrawal from Bugatti Rimac and the planned sale of the majority in the marine diesel business Everllence.

The group is struggling with high costs, weak demand and a necessary realignment. According to media reports, factory closures and significant job cuts could follow as part of the restructuring. However, there are no official decisions regarding Ducati or other brands so far.
