Just in time before FT2, the race stewards’ verdicts are in. Carlos Sainz receives a warning because he once impeded Max Verstappen in FT1. For the other two investigations, the verdict is “No further action” in each case. You can find all three verdicts verbatim here:

During the press conference, Ferrari junior Tuukka Taponen secured his first pole in Formula 3. He finished ahead of Audi’s Freddie Slater, who now has a good chance to take the championship lead this weekend.

Leader Ugo Ugochukwu, who is only one point ahead of Slater, finished in P6.

This concludes today’s press conference. Other topics included George Russell’s problems and the further development of the Red Bull. In an hour, the action on track will continue with FT2.

The Aston Martin team principal is asked if the big update marks the end of the nightmare. “The first races were a nightmare, that’s true,” Newey admits.

And “hopefully” it’s over now, he says with a grin. At the same time, he also makes it clear that one cannot expect miracles. Because Aston Martin will not suddenly be competing at the very front.

Now it’s about the rumors that Christian Horner could join Aston Martin. Newey says with a grin that he has heard about it, but cannot say more.

He says they are currently very satisfied with the management and there will be at most minor adjustments. But in the end, Lawrence Stroll decides, of course.

Regarding Stroll’s defect in FT1, Newey says they are currently still working to find out the background. This means: they are not yet sure. But they want an answer by FT2.

Now it’s about the Mercedes W17, the most successful car this year so far. Resta explains that there is no specific factor that makes the car so strong.

Rather, the car simply has no major weaknesses and performs well on all tracks and in all conditions. This good balance makes it so successful.

Right at the beginning, the Aston upgrade is also discussed, and Newey explains that it is still “very early” for a conclusion. At least in the first practice, the new parts looked “promising”.

At the same time, Newey also clarifies that it is only one part of the entire update. There will be further new parts in Zandvoort and Monza.

The obligatory press conference of the team representatives begins in Budapest in ten minutes. Adrian Newey, among others, is present today to hopefully tell us something about the “new” Aston Martin.

We also expect Simone Resta (Mercedes) and Pierre Wache (Red Bull). Should there be exciting statements in the press conference, we will provide them to you here as usual.

Allan McNish says after P6 and P8 on Sky: “The car adapted very well to the racetrack. Nico and Gabi handled it well.” Nevertheless, the result should not be overestimated.

“We are still in a very early phase. The track looks very, very dusty. Therefore, I am sure there are many drivers whose lap wasn’t quite perfect,” he warns.

“The top four teams are undoubtedly a step ahead, and I think that will show in the second practice,” McNish emphasizes. But in the battle behind, Audi sees itself well positioned.

“We knew we would be very close to the Racing Bulls. In the last races, it was always the same. If we do everything right, we can keep up with them,” says the Scot.

On which racetracks will Formula 1 still compete in the second half of the 2026 season? After a possible rescheduled date in Bahrain has apparently been ruled out due to the escalating Middle East conflict, planning for possible alternatives is already in full swing.

The return to Malaysia is increasingly coming into focus: The Malaysian government has even launched a feasibility study to organize a Formula 1 race at short notice. The first weekend of October, between the races in Baku and Singapore, is considered a potential date.

Red Bull also has to pay a fine. Isack Hadjar was just caught speeding in the pit lane at 83.8 km/h, while only 80 km/h is allowed. That’s 400 Euros, which the Bulls can certainly afford.

After FT1, there are three investigations still open. Max Verstappen has to answer to the race stewards because he allegedly drove unpredictably once, and Carlos Sainz is accused of this twice.
