As every Sunday, we take a look at the strategy. This time it’s exciting, because according to Pirelli, both a one-stop and a two-stop strategy are realistic today.

“Our simulations show no difference in overall race time between a one-stop and a two-stop strategy,” reveals Pirelli Motorsport Director Dario Marrafuschi.

He explains: “The wear, which was higher than expected, has practically put both strategic options on an equal footing, so teams can now […] play through different scenarios.”

The medium is the most likely option for the start, he says. How it continues after that, however, is completely individual and also depends on which tires are still left.

Only 0.012 seconds separated Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton in yesterday’s qualifying. Due to the penalty for the Briton, this didn’t matter for pole anyway in the end, but here you can watch the video again to see exactly where Norris gained the decisive time:

If you switched off immediately after qualifying yesterday, you missed that there were two subsequent penalties. Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli were each moved back on the starting grid.
