“Kimi brings a fresh breeze with his style. He has also proven how strong he is in sports. He is a very different type, but extremely focused,” explained Domenicali.
In fact, Antonelli has so far managed to withstand the increasing pressure in the 2026 Formula 1 season. And that at only 19 years old and in his second year in the championship. This earns admiration from the series chief.
“Last year, Kimi had to endure a lot of criticism. But Toto Wolff and the team [Mercedes] have, in my view, protected him excellently,” said Domenicali.

“This is of great importance to the Italian fans,” said Domenicali. “It has been a long time since an Italian driver has won something truly big. Everyone knows that. That is why Kimi opens up a whole new perspective.”
But can Antonelli maintain all these qualities when the championship battle intensifies after the summer break? So far, Antonelli’s relationship with other drivers is “excellent,” said Domenicali. “That could of course change once it comes to winning the world championship. But that is part of the sport.”
