The Super Saturday in Aragon is already history. And Marc Marquez has left his mark on it – despite narrowly missing pole – with a sprint victory. Will he be able to achieve such a dominant performance in tomorrow’s long race?

In the first race of the Bagger World Cup, Andrea Iannone and Oscar Gutierrez fought a close battle for victory until the end. At the end of the eight laps, Iannone narrowly won by 0.246 seconds and celebrated his second win of the season. Gutierrez finished second. Archie McDonald took third place and assumed the overall lead.

Jordi Torres and Maxwell Toth completed the top 5. Eric Granado retired already in lap two from third place due to a heavy crash.

Marc Marquez (Ducati/1st): “Of course, I knew Marco was on the soft tire. So my chance in the race was mainly in the first corner. Tomorrow it will be a bit the same. We’ll see. Of course, a good start helped me a lot. After that, I rode a good pace, but I saw that the group was also quite fast, especially Alex. Let’s see if we can improve a bit more tomorrow and try to be as consistent as today.”

Alex Marquez (Gresini-Ducati/2nd): “It’s really, really nice. I felt very good. I love riding at home. I love that we have four home Grands Prix and each one has something special and unique. And here I really enjoyed the whole weekend. But tomorrow comes the most important part. Nevertheless, this second place was very important for me.”

“Since the injury, things have been getting better and better for us. In Silverstone, however, it was a bit painful not to be on the podium on Sunday. But this weekend we are doing a really good job. I think tomorrow we will have to adjust a few more things so that we can fight for the podium again.”

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia/3rd): “It was a great day. Honestly, I hadn’t expected such a good result today in qualifying or in the sprint, because yesterday I felt good, but my pace wasn’t the best. So I’m very happy. I knew Marc and Alex had a bit more. Unfortunately, I missed the braking point a bit in the first corner. But I’m very happy and satisfied. Thanks to the team, and now we’re thinking about tomorrow.”

Marc Marquez remains undefeated in the Aragon sprint races and secures victory ahead of brother Alex. Bezzecchi finishes third. Acosta and Martin complete the top 5. Aldeguer not only overtakes Fernandez but also Moreira in the final phase and takes a strong sixth place on his comeback.

Zarco’s return is equally remarkable, as he secures the last points position in this sprint with ninth place behind Moreira and Fernandez. Miller finishes tenth empty-handed but is the best Yamaha rider.

Two laps are still to go and Marc Marquez’s lead is just under one second. Alex Marquez holds a good eight tenths ahead of Bezzecchi. If no one makes a major mistake here, the podium places are taken.

For Fernandez, it’s been backwards since the start from the second row. Meanwhile, Moreira has also overtaken him, taking sixth place, and Aldeguer is already knocking as the next competitor. Unlike his Aprilia brand colleagues, Fernandez is riding the medium rear tire. Was that a mistake after all?

The duel between Martin and Acosta continues. Now Acosta is back in front. However, the gap to the top 3 has widened further. The gaps at the front remain constant: Marc leads Alex, Bezzecchi holds third place.

The next retirement, but this time not due to a crash: Quartararo’s Yamaha has given up the ghost. However, the Frenchman was already hopelessly in 16th place.

Marc Marquez was not pleased that pole didn’t work out. Now he’s riding with a knife between his teeth and setting a high initial pace. After four laps, he has already built up an eight-tenth lead over Alex.

Bezzecchi holds third place behind Alex with a similar gap. Martin has caught Acosta and is fourth, but is already more than a second behind Bezzecchi.

In lap two, Di Giannantonio crashed out. The order at the front: Marc Marquez, Alex Marquez, Bezzecchi, Acosta, Martin, Moreira, Fernandez. Bagnaia is fighting for connection in eighth place. He has Zarco behind him.

In turn 7, Marini is already the first rider to crash out of the race. At the front, the top 3 are pushing the pace and already opening a small gap, also because there’s a hard fight behind them. Martin, Fernandez and Acosta are battling for fourth place. Moreira and Diggia are also in contention.

Bezzecchi gets away better at the start, but Marc Marquez outbrakes him in turn 1 and Alex also passes him directly. Thus, the pole-sitter is now only third.

In the top 10, only Marco Bezzecchi, Jorge Martin, Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira have opted for the soft rear tire. The others are running the medium.
