Weather

We’ll quickly take a look at the weather in Monza as well, which we can really keep short today. Rain is not in sight on Saturday either; instead, it will be another heat battle with temperatures up to around 35 degrees.

No precipitation is forecast for tomorrow’s race Sunday either.

55 years ago today …

… Peter Gethin won one of the craziest Formula 1 races ever in Monza. At the 1971 Italian Grand Prix, the top 5 were separated by just 0.61 seconds at the finish line!

How important is pole?

Last year Max Verstappen won in Monza from pole position. However, in the last six years, that was also the only win at the Italian Grand Prix from the best starting position.

In 2024 Charles Leclerc triumphed after starting only from P4, in 2023 Verstappen won from P2, and a year earlier even from P7. In 2021 Daniel Ricciardo triumphed, who started the race from P2.

And in the crazy 2020 race, Pierre Gasly even won from P10. That means: statistically, pole in Monza is not that decisive – on the contrary.

Special helmet

If you wonder why Fernando Alonso’s helmet looks so different this weekend, there is an explanation. The Spaniard is driving with a tribute to Adrian Campos.

The former Formula 1 driver and team owner died five years ago and is considered the discoverer of Alonso and was once his manager. With his special helmet design, Alonso honors Campos this weekend.

Hadjar statement

The Frenchman is not even participating this weekend – but can still celebrate a podium place. Yesterday he got back third place from Monaco, and he has since commented on it.

“It’s great to get the podium back. I always said that no one can take away the feeling of standing on the podium in Monaco – regardless of the result,” said Hadjar.

“But having it officially in the record books is even nicer. A big thank you to Laurent and the team who fought hard off the track to get this podium place back – my first in these colors.”

The mood at Alpine, on the other hand, is not quite as good …
