Publicly, the Briton remains composed. But Martin Brundle believes there is certainly a need for discussion behind the scenes at Mercedes. “It was a very difficult day for George Russell,” says the expert on Sky.

“He will certainly have to sit down with the team and ask: ‘How did this happen? I was leading. Why didn’t I get the favorable pit stop there?'”

“In the championship, George had the chance to do something about the deficit. Instead, it has grown further,” says Brundle. He is now 66 points behind his teammate.

Leclerc was able to get out of the car after his accident but had to sit for a few minutes while track marshals took care of his well-being. According to his own statement, he had problems seeing shortly after the accident.

“I couldn’t see well with my right eye,” he reveals. However, everything is fine now, although he still has some pain here and there in his body. “But that’s quite normal after such an accident, and nothing more,” says Leclerc.

“It made sense to split the cars,” says Russell. In the end, this decision probably hurt him.

Because Kimi Antonelli starts from the very back, Ferrari could have a tactical advantage in the fight for the win. Because while they have two cars at the front, George Russell is going it alone. That could be used tactically.

Nico Rosberg still believes Russell is the favorite today. About Ferrari he says on Sky: “They will definitely be on the podium. But I don’t know if it will be enough to win the race, because Russell is simply very fast today.”

The world champion complained about his brakes yesterday in qualifying. McLaren reacted and changed parts of the front wheel brakes for the race. This is allowed if they are identical parts.
