Leclerc was attacked on the inside approaching the corner by McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, but was still able to assert himself on the outside line. However, the Monegasque suddenly started to skid while going through the corner and turned left.
The SF-26 slid through the gravel trap and hit the track boundary quite hard on the side.

Leclerc was able to get out of the car but then had to sit for a few minutes while track marshals took care of his well-being. Due to the severity of his crash, he then had to visit the medical center but was able to leave it uninjured.
The race control brought out the red flag and initially stopped the race for a little more than half an hour.
