– In the 2027 season, a new era begins in MotoGP with the new technical regulations. The displacement will be reduced from 1,000 cubic centimeters to 850. The fuel will consist of 100 percent fossil-free components. Aerodynamics will be restricted and ride-height systems banned.

A significant change concerns the switch of tire manufacturer. Michelin had been the sole supplier since 2016. From 2027, Pirelli will take over this role. In return, Pirelli will withdraw from the Superbike World Championship and Michelin will take over that series.
Pirelli has already been supplying tires for the Moto3 and Moto2 classes since 2024. In March 2025, it was announced that the Italian brand would also take over the premier class.
Since then, Pirelli has worked intensively on its tire range and made a first delivery to the five MotoGP manufacturers (Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, Honda, and Yamaha) at the end of 2025.
After the first feedback from the teams, Pirelli further developed its range and delivered a second set of 80 tires to each manufacturer last May at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.
Most recently, Pirelli distributed a new batch of 400 tires to the teams at MotorLand Aragon. 80 tires for each manufacturer, with which they must complete their tests before the first pre-season test in 2027, which takes place on December 1.

The big innovation of this new tire package is that they come with a color palette. Each compound is marked with a different color, similar to Formula 1.
In Formula 1, for example, red stands for the soft compound, yellow for the medium compound, and white for the hard compound, while a blue marking indicates the wet tire and a green one the intermediate tire.
Intermediate tires will return to MotoGP. Michelin had removed this tire type from the range in 2017 because hardly any rider used it in practice.
With the tires delivered in Aragon, the test teams of the five manufacturers can conduct further private test rides. On the Monday after the Austrian Grand Prix, an official test day will take place, which is also open to the regular riders.

At the official test in Valencia, on the Tuesday after the season finale, Pirelli will provide all MotoGP teams with the tires that will then include the full catalog for 2027. On this day, all regular riders will test the new motorcycles and tires.
