(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – Although BMW officially ended production of the Z4 at Magna Steyr, the roadster now celebrates an exclusive comeback. The company Bovensiepen Automobile, closely intertwined with the history of the Alpina brand, is launching a small series of only 99 modified units. This special series marks another highlight in the new era of the Buchloe-based company, following the Bovensiepen Zagato and the 05 GT.

Anyone familiar with BMW might recognize this name. It is often mistakenly assumed that BMW took over the entire Alpina company in 2022. In fact, only the brand name was acquired. The family-run company from Buchloe now operates as Bovensiepen and will continue to support the vehicles built until the end of 2025. Additionally, new cars are now being developed under its own name.
The first model of the new era was the Bovensiepen Zagato: an M4 convertible converted into a coupe with a carbon body and design by the famous Italian design studio. This was followed by the 05 GT based on the M5 Touring, designed by Frank Stephenson, the designer of the first X5. Now Stephenson also shapes the look of the Bovensiepen Spider, which is based on the Z4 M40i.
A final appearance for the Z4
Of course, these cars are not built completely from scratch. They are most likely based on some of the last vehicles that rolled off the production line. Frank Stephenson, who was also involved in the design of the first modern Mini, gave the roadster a subtle makeover. This includes a high-gloss black front splitter with the characteristic two tips, large wheel arch vents in the front fenders, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a ducktail-style rear spoiler.
The 20-inch forged wheels would also not look out of place on one of the previous Alpina models.
In addition to the visual upgrade, Bovensiepen extracts more power from the BMW B58 engine. The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six now produces 435 hp and 580 Nm – an increase of 95 hp and 80 Nm compared to the standard Z4 M40i. The additional power enables a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and, with the optional performance package, a top speed of 295 km/h.

Inside, on request, there are full leather interiors in Lavalina leather, still known from Alpina. The in-house upholstery shop also implements individual customer wishes, says Bovensiepen.
That sounds attractive but comes at a price. The Bovensiepen Spider starts in Germany at 115,500 euros. For this amount, you can also get an M4 convertible, provided you hold back a bit on the options list. Anyone who absolutely wants a Z4 before it finally disappears can already place an order. Deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.
Motor1 says: It is fitting that the Z4 gets its last big appearance precisely from the people behind Alpina. The roadster may officially have reached the end of its life cycle, but Bovensiepen is preparing it an exclusive farewell with a limited series, more power, and a design refinement by the man who co-designed the original X5. With only 99 vehicles built, you are unlikely to get closer to a brand-new Z4 with a serious dose of exclusivity.
