Historic double victory: Flynt Schuring's participation was not planned at all

– The proudest person in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) paddock last weekend was probably Gerwin Schuring. The former Nordschleife driver got to watch as his two sons Morris and Flynt took the first two places in the Sunday race for Schnabl Engineering. It actually wasn’t planned that way.

Actually, Sven Müller was supposed to drive the Dunlop-Porsche #17, but he fell ill shortly before the race. Flynt Schuring, Porsche junior and a long-time protagonist in the Porsche Cup scene, thus unexpectedly got his first SP9 deployment on the Nordschleife and immediately impressed everyone – including his experienced teammate Nico Menzel.

Morris and Flynt Schuring are the first brother pair from the Netherlands to climb the podium together at the NLS. On race day itself, both held back their emotions. The strains after the double-header with two 4-hour races meant they had not yet fully grasped the significance. A few days have now passed – and with that, the realization has set in.

“It feels very special. During the race weekend, of course, you are focused and don’t think much about it, but looking back, it is of course very special that we are now both on the podium,” says ex-DTM driver Morris, the older of the two brothers, to Motorsport-Total.com.

“Both of us on the podium with pro cars – that’s something we wouldn’t have even dreamed of five years ago! Everything is happening very fast; so it’s also important that we take the time to understand that this is a special phase. And that we can experience it together as brothers.”

Flynt adds, also to Motorsport-Total.com: “A double victory together with Morris is of course something very special! I didn’t expect that at all. More than that: I didn’t even expect to drive on the Nordschleife that weekend, it wasn’t planned at first and all came quite last minute.”

“And then also with the 911 GT3 R – my first race deployment with a GT3 car on the Nordschleife. That we could finish like this after a really crazy race with so many weather caprices was simply wonderful!”

Two brothers, one shared apartment

The 20 and 21-year-old brothers are very close. They live together in a shared apartment in Amsterdam, train together, and work on their careers together. “We just get along very well. We support each other where appropriate. I think we also make each other better because we support each other in a professional environment,” says Morris.

“Of course, we both have to train a lot, spend a lot of time in the simulator and do everything else that goes with it. So it’s great to be able to do that together with someone who is also in this situation. That motivates additionally, makes us stronger, and I really see that as a strength, definitely not something negative.”

Flynt confirms: “Our relationship is great. We drive together for Porsche, also as a brother pair, which is an unusual constellation. That it was so successful right away on the first deployment with the GT3 is of course great! We have the same experiences, face the same problems, and can always exchange very well and strengthen each other.”

Of course, sooner or later the question arises what will happen to the relationship if both brothers once fight for the crown. “Hopefully it won’t take too long until we fight for wins and titles, that’s our goal after all!” laughs Flynt.

“Challenging each other is certainly not bad, it ultimately makes us both better and stronger. How that will look in detail remains to be seen, I am not thinking about it much at the moment. And maybe we will also drive together.”

That is also the hope Morris relies on: “You can also look at it the other way around: We are both endurance drivers and could share a car and fight for the win together.”
