The cars of Luca Engstler, who starts with the anniversary number 130, which refers to Abt’s 130-year company history, and Marco Mapelli differ only slightly – apart from slightly varying sponsors.
Both feature a Red Bull design, but Engstler’s car is characterized by yellow color elements, while the winglets and rear-view mirrors on Mapelli’s are red.
Abt takes a two-pronged approach with Lamborghini in 2026
The team is once again relying on factory support from Lamborghini, which the traditional team from Kempten has been receiving since the brand change from Audi to the Italians last year. However, it is interesting that the team is taking a two-pronged approach in 2026: while the brand-new Temerario is being used in the DTM, the Huracan GT3 Evo2 remains active on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

The model change offers an opportunity for Abt, because after the difficult DTM debut year last year with the Huracan GT3 Evo2, in which they had to accept the weakest season in their successful history, the clocks are being reset for all Lamborghini teams this year.
Slight experience advantage for Grasser team
This means that even the experienced Grasser squad, who know the Huracan GT3 inside out after eleven years, are starting from scratch with the new turbo car, which this time was not developed in Audi’s slipstream but under their own direction.

Nevertheless, Grasser has a slight advantage because the Austrian squad received the brand-new vehicles a bit earlier as they had to prepare for the GT World Challenge Europe season opener in Le Castellet last weekend.
Abt, on the other hand, has no racing experience with the Temerario cars so far and has only been able to get to know the vehicle during tests organized by Lamborghini; the team also tested in Vallelunga.
The Pirelli test for all DTM teams in Vallelunga showed that there are still teething problems with the newly developed vehicle. This makes the official test day in Spielberg all the more important, where the team can gather more kilometers with the new vehicle.

Apart from that, following the departures of former champion Mirko Bortolotti and Nicki Thiim, the team is relying on a new DTM driver pairing this year with Engstler and a factory driver, even though both were already involved in the Kempten-based team’s Nordschleife projects.
