Already on Monday afternoon, Alex Marquez was able to return home to Madrid. On Thursday, his Gresini team posted a photo on Instagram with a brief update.
The photo shows Alex Marquez with team manager Michele Masini and his crew chief Donatello Giovanotti. Alex Marquez stands in the middle, wearing a neck brace and has his right arm in a sling.
Under the post, the Gresini team confirms that he will skip the race weekends in Italy (Mugello) and Hungary (Balaton Park). After this double-header, the Czech Grand Prix is the next event on the MotoGP calendar.
The motorcycle world championship will take place from June 19 to 21 in Brno. Whether Alex Marquez can return there remains to be seen. For Mugello and Balaton Park, the Gresini team must nominate a replacement rider.
Who this will be has not yet been announced. When Fermin Aldeguer was unable to compete at the season opener in Thailand due to his leg fracture in winter, Gresini relied on Ducati test rider Michele Pirro as a replacement.

Brother Marc Marquez is also currently on a break. The world champion broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot in a crash at Le Mans (France). This injury has already been operated on.
Additionally, a procedure was performed on the right shoulder to remove a broken screw that was pressing on a nerve in the arm. When Marc Marquez will race again has not yet been communicated by Ducati.
Johann Zarco, who was injured in Barcelona in an accident after the restart on his left leg, especially the knee, will also be out for a longer period. It is currently not possible to predict how long the veteran will have to pause.
After a night in the hospital in Barcelona, Zarco returned to his home in France on Monday. On Tuesday, he was examined by Doctor Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet at the Santyin Orthopedic Center in Lyon.
The LCR team stated: “After a thorough examination, it is assumed that Zarco will have to wait a few more weeks before he can undergo surgery for his ligament injuries in the knee.”
