– After his severe crash in the MotoGP race at the Catalan Grand Prix, Alex Marquez has spoken in detail for the first time about the dramatic hours following the accident. The Spaniard makes it clear how close he came to a much more serious injury.

Marquez describes the moment he was fully conscious again in the hospital as particularly impressive. “When I arrived at the hospital, it was around 3:30 pm, I slowly started to remember again and I asked to see the crash,” he explains on his YouTube channel.
He had some fragmented memories, but the full picture was initially missing. When he finally saw the footage, he became aware of the full extent: “At that moment, I honestly realized how lucky I was to avoid the track boundary on the right side.”
Alex Marquez had to return to the intensive care unit
The medical course was just as intense as the first impressions after the accident: On Sunday evening, around 9 pm, he underwent surgery. The Spaniard spent the night as a precaution in the intensive care unit. “Just in case – so that nothing gets out of control,” he describes this phase.
Initially, the development seemed positive. Marquez was discharged on Monday morning and traveled back to Madrid. But the situation changed at home.
“I came home and felt bad. The pain had subsided, then it became much stronger again,” he reports. Therefore, he decided to spend two more nights in the intensive care unit to rule out any deterioration.

Sustainable rather than rushed comeback in focus
The accident itself has left a lasting impact on him. For Marquez, it was not a typical crash after which one immediately focuses on a quick return. Rather, he describes it as a turning point where the body needs time to recover and return to normal.
“It is not an injury where you think about recovery immediately like last year. The impact is so strong that you first have to come back down to earth,” explains the 30-year-old. But despite the intensity of the experience, his focus remains clearly on returning to MotoGP and to the top.

For him, the timing is not decisive, but the manner of the comeback. “It’s not about when I come back, but how. Returning 100 percent prepared, without injury, and knowing that I can give everything on the track, that is what I am 100 percent focused on,” emphasizes Marquez.
In conclusion, the Spaniard addresses his fans. He thanks them for the great support on social networks, even though it is impossible for him to answer all messages. “I couldn’t reply to everyone, that’s impossible, but I felt all your love,” he assures.
