– In Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, construction work in preparation for the return of the Motorcycle World Championship for the 2027 season is continuing as planned. The Autodromo Oscar y Juan Galvez was chosen as the race track for Argentina’s comeback, where the Motorcycle World Championship last took place in the 1999 season.

However, the track layout from the 1990s will not be used for the return. Instead, the race track, which was also used by Formula 1 until 1998, is currently undergoing extensive reconstruction and modernization.
The planned new MotoGP layout in Buenos Aires is expected to be 4.34 kilometers long and feature 14 turns. The goal is to race on the modernized circuit in April 2027. Preparations are also underway for a possible return of Formula 1. Should the premier class on four wheels race again in Buenos Aires in the future, it would do so on a slightly longer track layout (4.87 kilometers with 15 turns).
Currently, a team of around 150 employees led by the state-owned company Autopistas Urbanas (AUSA) is continuing the planned work in Buenos Aires to host the Motorcycle World Championship again for the first time since 1999 next spring. From 2014 to 2025, the Motorcycle World Championship with its premier class MotoGP also raced in Argentina, but not in Buenos Aires, rather in Termas de Rio Hondo.
Topographic surveying work is currently underway at the Autodromo Oscar y Juan Galvez in Buenos Aires to ensure the correct leveling of the track’s substructure. One of the most visible signs of construction progress is the installation of curbs in the corners.
In some parts of the track, asphalt is already visible, although not the final layer yet. These are currently tests required before applying the final track surface. Completion of the construction work is planned for the early months of 2027.

“The project is progressing well. I think you can clearly see that here. Regarding the schedule, I would say we are even ahead of our timeline,” says Fabian Turnes, Sports Minister of Buenos Aires, to Motorsport.com Latin America, a sister platform of Motorsport-Total.com in the Motorsport Network.
One of the most important advances in recent weeks was the construction of a new tunnel that passes under the race track in the area of turn 1. The tunnel is just over 4.50 meters high and 11 meters wide. It accommodates two lanes and a pedestrian walkway.
Work on the new pit building is also progressing. After the demolition of the old pit building, which was built in 1995 for the return of Formula 1, there will be 32 pit boxes in the future, each seven meters wide. The race control will also be located in the new pit building.
The date for the Argentine Grand Prix in Buenos Aires on the 2027 MotoGP calendar is expected to be either the weekend of April 2 to 4 or the weekend of April 9 to 11. The exact date is expected to be announced as part of the full 2027 MotoGP calendar release. This announcement is currently planned by the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (MotoGP SEG) for August/September 2026.
In September, representatives of the MotoGP SEG will travel to Buenos Aires for the third time in a few years to personally inspect the current construction progress.
