As the US industry medium Deadline reported this week, the streaming service is planning an action film set entirely in the world of MotoGP.
“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson takes on lead role
The project centers on Alan Ritchson. The US actor will not only take the lead role but also co-produce the film through his production company Dancing Skeleton. The project is the first feature film from a long-term collaboration between him and Netflix.
Ritchson is best known to a broad audience as the lead actor in the series “Reacher” on Amazon Prime. Previously, he played Aquaman in the series “Smallville” and appeared in the comedy series “Blue Mountain State.”
Additionally, appearances in successful film franchises such as “The Hunger Games” and “Fast & Furious” have been part of his acting career. Most recently, the 43-year-old was in front of the camera for the Netflix hit “War Machine.”
This recent success likely facilitated the new collaboration with Netflix. After “War Machine,” Ritchson agreed on a so-called first-look deal for feature films with the streaming provider. The now planned MotoGP film is the first concretely announced project of this collaboration.
Motorcycle thieves, Interpol, and a presumed dead brother
The plot is intended to go beyond a classic racing film. At the center is a group of motorcycle thieves specializing in spectacular heists, who begin stealing valuable antiques worldwide.
To stop the gang, Interpol turns to a former MotoGP prodigy, played by Ritchson. His past in motorcycle racing makes him the right man to hunt down the criminals.

However, the investigation takes a personal turn: The protagonist realizes that his younger brother, whom he thought was dead, might be behind the gang.

Thus, the film combines the world of MotoGP with a classic heist story, international action, and a family conflict. Concrete details about an official film title, a director, or a start of filming are not yet available.
Netflix envisions “Fast & Furious with motorcycles”
The direction of the project was apparently communicated very clearly by those responsible at Netflix. According to Deadline, the film was presented to the studio as “Fast & Furious with motorcycles.”
The parallel to the successful Universal franchise is no coincidence. The screenplay is by none other than Chris Morgan, who for many years was one of the key writers of the “Fast & Furious” universe.
Morgan wrote a total of seven films in the series and was involved in its development from a story about illegal street racing to a globally operating action franchise. His work on the film series began with “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” which marks the third installment of the series.
His experience with large-scale action and spectacular vehicle sequences is now apparently to be transferred to two wheels. MotoGP provides the setting, while the plot with heists, chases, and a personal family secret clearly leans towards action cinema.
MotoGP wants to actively support the film production
The MotoGP itself is also involved in the project. The MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, the promoter of the racing series, has made an agreement with the filmmakers and will provide advisory support for the production.
MotoGP is to participate in the development of the project and be available as a technical contact. This gives Netflix official access to the environment of the motorcycle world championship for the film.
