Ferrari still lagging behind on the engine
Ferrari brought an update for the engine in Monza – but according to their own statement, it was still too slow on the straights. Frederic Vasseur explains: “This process with the engine takes forever.”
“It’s not like with the chassis. There you can make an upgrade from one day to the next,” says the team principal, who clarifies that it takes significantly longer with the engine.
“The process takes an extremely long time because the lead times for the parts are long and the cost cap is not easy to comply with,” he explains, emphasizing that Ferrari is only making “small steps” here.
“We did not expect to close the gap at ADUO 1 or ADUO 2,” Vasseur also reveals. “Of course, the goal is to catch up the deficit as quickly as possible,” he stresses.
“But I did not expect that we would catch up the gap to Mercedes in two months,” says Vasseur.

Audi considers protest
The race result is not yet 100% certain: Audi has informed the FIA of its intention to appeal against the missing penalty for Yuki Tsunoda in Monza.
“After the Italian Grand Prix, we expressed concerns about the application of Article B5.9.4, according to which a driver who causes an additional formation lap must enter the pit lane and restart the race from there,” Audi explains in a statement.

Wolff: Antonelli reminded me of Hamilton
The Mercedes team principal says after Antonelli’s heroic ride yesterday: “The decisive factor today was the ability to fight through the field. We have seen that before with other top drivers.”
“Lewis [Hamilton] managed that in some races, and that’s exactly what he showed today. He was simply unstoppable. When driver and car form a unit, there is nothing that can stop them,” says Wolff.
“I was clear that today his mission was to win the race,” reveals the team principal, who emphasizes: “Even if he wins another 200 Grands Prix, this one will always remain something special.”

Stella: Why Monza was so important
Monza was perhaps the biggest test for the new Formula 1 regulations. Andrea Stella therefore says: “I believe this race will be remembered as the most significant under the new rules.”
“It placed high demands on the quality of implementation. I think we met these, but overall we were not in the fight for victory because Mercedes had a clear advantage over everyone else,” says the team principal.
That means: In his opinion, McLaren actually did everything right regarding the complicated battery management and co. The car was simply not fast enough.
Schumacher: Monza a “disgrace” for Ferrari
Since we are talking about experts: Ralf Schumacher found harsh words for Ferrari after yesterday’s race. “That was a kind of disgrace you don’t like to see,” he says on Sky.
“I’m not quite sure what this means now for [Frederic Vasseur],” he adds and explains: “I hope nothing serious happens after this weekend because the disappointment will be great.”
On the other hand, it was just one race. And already next weekend in Madrid, Ferrari has the chance to do much better.
Expert already made a prediction
Already before the weekend in Monza, expert Jolyon Palmer said: “If Kimi wins in Monza despite a grid penalty, he is world champion.” He said that would be “a devastating blow” for Russell in the championship.
Now it has actually happened. And at least personally, I wouldn’t bet on any other Formula 1 world champion 2026 since yesterday …

Kimi Antonelli not only won yesterday, he also set the fastest lap on the last lap of the race – which surely raised Toto Wolff’s pulse a bit more. The lap is available here again in full video:
