Francesco Bagnaia took advantage of the start of the summer break to undergo surgery. As his employer Ducati announced on Wednesday evening, Bagnaia “successfully underwent an endoscopic fasciotomy on his right forearm” in the afternoon.
This is the compartment syndrome, which is widespread in motorcycle racing, also known as “arm pump”.
The Ducati statement continues: “The procedure, performed by the medical team around Professor Luigi Tarallo at the orthopedic clinic of the Policlinico di Modena under the direction of Professor Fabio Catani, was successful and without complications.”

In the 2026 MotoGP rider standings, Bagnaia is in eighth place during the now started summer break. He has not won a Grand Prix this season, only a sprint, which was at the Czech weekend in Brno.

The ongoing 2026 MotoGP season is Bagnaia’s sixth and final with the Ducati factory team. Starting in 2027, the two-time premier class world champion will race for the Aprilia factory team. There he has signed a four-year contract through 2030 inclusive.
