– Is there finally positive news at Lamborghini after the turbulence in the motorsport sector? The Audi subsidiary, which has recently been hit by numerous departures of key figures and personnel changes in the racing department, has apparently found a new head of motorsport.

This is the Italian Andrea Reggiani. The name of the long-time Ferrari manager first appeared a few weeks ago, but then things went quiet around him again. It seemed as if he might have declined, but that does not appear to be the case.
A Lamborghini spokesperson also confirmed upon request from Motorsport-Total.com: “The announcement of the new head of motorsport at Lamborghini is planned for the next 30 days”. They did not want to comment on whether it is actually Reggiani.
Why Lamborghini’s sports department urgently needs a boss
A quick solution would be important, because since the departure of head of motorsport Maurizio Leschiutta in December 2025 after only one year, Rouven Mohr has been leading the Lamborghini Squadra Corse motorsport department on an interim basis. Mohr, who was most recently Chief Technical Officer of Lamborghini, returned to Audi on March 1 of this year, where he has since been leading Technical Development as a board member.
Officially, the 46-year-old from Saarbrücken will remain with Lamborghini for the time being on an interim basis in production and motorsport, but given his great responsibility at Audi, it would be a miracle if he still found time for the motorsport tasks of the Italian sports car brand.
Lamborghini also loses racing development manager
In addition, Lamborghini will also lose racing development manager Stefan Gugger at the end of April, whom Mohr had brought in from Audi in May 2024 and who was responsible for the implementation of the Temerario GT3 project.
“This option was provided for in his contract – and for personal and family reasons, he has decided to continue his career at Audi Sport,” Lamborghini explains the departure of the Swiss. Only a little over a year ago, Lamborghini’s motorsport department lost its long-time technical director Leonardo Galante, who retired after the departure of long-time head of motorsport Giorgio Sanna.

Will Lamborghini now succeed in providing more stability through the new appointment? The 51-year-old Reggiani would fit the requirements profile well. He is Italian, which – as we hear – plays an important role. In addition to his engineering training, he also has a lot of management experience.
Candidate Reggiani has a Ferrari past
Reggiani worked for Ferrari from 2008 to 2018 – initially in marketing in Asia and China, before becoming head of Corse Clienti in the Asia-Pacific region in 2011. In 2014, he took over the overall management of the exclusive program that allows customers to drive legendary Formula 1 cars and other classics from Maranello.
In 2015, Reggiani became head of motorsport for Ferrari North America and was responsible for the Ferrari Challenge one-make series, among other things, before the manager from Parma moved to the local racing car manufacturer Dallara in 2018. Since then, he has been acting as CCO of the Stradale project, which is Dallara’s first road-legal vehicle.
Great pressure due to new Super Trofeo car
Dallara is a long-standing development partner of Lamborghini, which would fit well with a move. His Ferrari Challenge experience could benefit him at Lamborghini, as the Super Trofeo one-make series, which is held in Europe, the USA, and Asia, is considered the “cash cow” of the motorsport program.
And 2026 is an important year for Lamborghini: to make the GT3 project with the Temerario a success, more than the eight vehicles delivered worldwide so far urgently need to be produced, which is currently already a challenge.
In addition, the new Super Trofeo car, which is to be used for the first time in 2027 and has the same powertrain as the GT3 car, is going into production. We hear of a planned volume of around 100 Temerario Super Trofeo. This is a huge project for the Squadra Corse motorsport department, which consists of no more than 30 people.
