Even before this injury, Marquez had planned surgery on his right shoulder because a broken screw was pressing on a nerve and limiting his riding style.

Marquez flew to Madrid on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, the procedures on the shoulder and foot were performed at the Ruber Internacional Hospital. They were successful, as confirmed by Ducati.

The medical team led by Dr. Samuel Antuna along with colleagues Dr. Ignacio Roger de Ona, Dr. Andres Maldonado, Dr. Jorge de las Heras, Dr. Raul Barco, and Dr. Juan de Miguel successfully stabilized the fracture of the metatarsal bone.

At the same time, a previously planned procedure on the right shoulder was carried out. An older injury had become noticeable again in recent weeks.

The doctors removed two screws and a bone fragment from a previous Latarjet operation (December 2019). The fragment had shifted and compressed the radial nerve.

Marquez will spend the night into Monday in the hospital and then return home to begin rehabilitation. The healing process in the coming weeks will determine when he can return.

Ducati has already announced that the reigning MotoGP world champion will miss the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona next weekend. A replacement rider has not yet been officially named.
