The manager of the currently dominating Moto2 World Championship leader is working intensively to secure Gonzalez a place in the premier class. A step that was denied to him this year.
Two weeks ago, a first round of talks with Trackhouse was opened at the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona. The team is currently considered the option with the best chances of success for Gonzalez.
Last year, the US team invited him to complete a test with the Aprilia RS-GP25 in Aragon. The idea came from team boss Davide Brivio and came about almost unexpectedly.
At that time, a replacement was sought at short notice for the injured Ai Ogura. At MotorLand, Gonzalez completed 87 laps and set a personal best time of 1:47.832 minutes.
He caused some appreciative looks in the Trackhouse team at that time, even though it was emphasized that it was a one-time test that should have no further consequences.
Despite the frustration of not being able to move up to MotoGP this season, Gonzalez rejected offers from the Superbike World Championship to continue the Moto2 project with IntactGP.
With the German team, he has already achieved three wins and six podiums in the first seven races this year. The Spaniard leads the World Championship standings with a lead of 34.5 points over Izan Guevara.
“I don’t know if I can achieve more in Moto2,” Gonzalez said on Sunday after his dominant win in Mugello when asked about his chances of moving up to MotoGP.

“Yes, of course, winning the World Championship title, but when the time comes, the entire rider market will already be closed. At the moment, I just have to keep winning races and just be myself, nothing more.”
Of course, he was also asked about his future. Although he did not want to confirm anything, he showed optimism regarding his manager’s negotiations.
“There are several things that are developing in a positive direction, and I think they will become even clearer after today. I believe that something will be known soon,” Gonzalez said without confirming his talks with Trackhouse.
With his possible move up to MotoGP, the 2027 season is likely to be one of the years in which especially many riders from Moto2 make the final step up.
In addition to Guevara (Pramac-Yamaha), David Alonso (Honda) and Daniel Holgado (Gresini-Ducati) are also moving up. Senna Agius has options at Tech3-KTM, as does Celestino Vietti at VR46-Ducati, although his chances are rather slim.
The signing of Gonzalez by the US team would likely mean the end for Raul Fernandez, who despite his win in the Mugello sprint is not among the team’s preferred options for the upcoming season.

In addition to Gonzalez, Enea Bastianini, currently at Tech3-KTM, will very likely form the Trackhouse lineup for 2027/28. At IntactGP, Alex Escrig is considered the favorite to replace Gonzalez next season.
