MotoGP Silverstone 2026: Raul Fernandez wins ahead of Jorge Martin

– Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse-Aprilia) dominated the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and celebrated a safe lights-to-flag victory. The Aprilia factory riders Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi took second and third places.

For the 20-lap race, all riders chose the hard front tire and the medium compound at the rear. 43,000 fans had gathered on Sunday in the stands under optimal weather conditions of around 27 degrees Celsius.

Raul Fernandez had a perfect start and overtook Martin in the first corner. The sprint winner did not have an optimal first few corners, as he dropped back to fourth place but was able to overtake Marc Marquez (Ducati) again in the first lap.

Martin lost position in the first corner because the rear ride-height system had not deactivated. The same problem also affected Ai Ogura (Trackhouse-Aprilia).

In the first lap, there was an accident in turn 7 involving Joan Mir (Honda) and Alex Rins (Yamaha), who crashed. After the first lap, Raul Fernandez already had a 1.2-second lead over Bezzecchi.

Martin was third ahead of Marc Marquez. Ogura followed in fifth. The Japanese rider did not find his pace and was overtaken in the second lap by Pedro Acosta (KTM) and Alex Marquez (Gresini-Ducati).

Raul Fernandez was the fastest rider in the first quarter of the race. After five laps, his lead was already three seconds. In the chasing group, Alex Marquez was on the rise.

First, he overtook Acosta and then his brother Marc Marquez. After six laps, Alex Marquez was fourth and thus the first Aprilia chaser. At the front, Raul Fernandez extended his lead to over four seconds.

In the ninth lap, Martin overtook his teammate Bezzecchi in The Loop and was the new second. In the same lap, Bezzecchi also lost third place to Alex Marquez, who outbraked him at Stowe.

At the same time, Ogura crashed in the Vale chicane. When the dust settled, Alex Marquez was suddenly only sixth. He had fallen back behind Bezzecchi, Acosta, and Marc Marquez.

The replay showed that the Gresini rider had slid off briefly beside the track in turn 1 and therefore lost positions. But Alex Marquez was able to overtake his brother again quickly.

In the twelfth lap, he was also able to overtake Acosta again at Stowe and was back in fourth. After 15 of 20 laps, Raul Fernandez still led with a four-second advantage over Martin.

But in the last quarter of the race, Raul Fernandez was lapping in the 1:59s, while Martin was still able to post high 1:58s times. At the start of the penultimate lap, Raul Fernandez’s lead was only 2.9 seconds.

For the last lap, the Trackhouse rider still had a two-and-a-half-second lead. Raul Fernandez won confidently ahead of Martin. After Australia in autumn 2025, it was his second MotoGP victory.

“I am very happy,” says the Spaniard. “I don’t really know exactly what I feel right now. I am very happy, especially because Justin [Marks] is here. Now Justin can enjoy this moment together with us.”

“That’s why I am very happy. I think together we delivered a really good weekend. It’s true that I was quite frustrated yesterday after my mistake. But that’s how the sport is.”

Martin extends World Championship lead

With second place, Martin extended his World Championship lead to 31 points (in the World Championship standings). “I am very happy for the team and for myself,” says the Aprilia factory rider. “That definitely gives us a big boost of confidence for the rest of the season.”

“I made a small mistake at the start. I still had the device activated, so all the riders overtook me. But I was able to fight back. I think that’s where I lost the victory.”

“Still, I found my pace at the end and hoped that Raul would slow down a bit. But he was impressively fast. And now it’s: keep going, keep moving forward. We are really, really happy.”

The other placements

The duel for third place was exciting in the final phase. Alex Marquez put pressure on Bezzecchi but found no way past. Thus, Bezzecchi was third again, as in the sprint.

Alex Marquez was the best Ducati rider in fourth place, as in the sprint. Acosta took fifth place for KTM. Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46-Ducati) followed in sixth (to the results).

Marc Marquez finished seventh. Three laps before the end of the race, he was overtaken by “Diggia”. The top 10 were completed by Brad Binder (KTM), Luca Marini (Honda), and Diogo Moreira (LCR-Honda).

Franco Morbidelli (VR46-Ducati) was eleventh, followed by the two Yamaha riders Fabio Quartararo and Jack Miller (Pramac). Pol Espargaro (Tech3-KTM) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pramac-Yamaha) completed the World Championship points positions.

Wildcard starter Augusto Fernandez (Yamaha) saw the checkered flag as 16th and last. In total, seven riders retired after crashes. Enea Bastianini (Tech3-KTM) crashed at the end of the fifth lap in the Vale corner.

Iker Lecuona (Gresini-Ducati) crashed shortly afterwards in the Maggotts-Becketts section. The race also ended in the gravel for local hero Cal Crutchlow (LCR-Honda). He crashed in turn 7. In the eighth lap, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) also crashed in this corner.

The next Grand Prix will take place from August 28 to 30 at MotorLand Aragon in Spain (to the calendar).
