– Peugeot is already setting the course for the upcoming season before this year’s season finale: former Ferrari driver Robert Schwarzman will return to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027 after a two-year break and will be behind the wheel of the Peugeot 9X8 in the future.

“I am extremely excited to return to the World Endurance Championship after my time racing in the United States,” says Schwarzman, who competed until the end of 2024 in the privately entered Ferrari 499P from AF Corse and won the Lone Star Le Mans in Austin at that time.
As a former Ferrari junior, the now 26-year-old maintained a close relationship with the Italians for a long time: in the 2022 season, Schwarzman was even employed as a test driver for the Scuderia and was allowed to drive several times in Formula 1 free practice sessions.
In the last two years, the Russian with Israeli citizenship competed, among other series, in IndyCar, where he surprisingly secured pole position for the legendary Indy 500 in 2025. Now the former Formula 2 teammate of Mick Schumacher is returning to the WEC.
“Endurance racing is something I really missed in the last two seasons, and I am excited to join Team Peugeot,” he says. “From the very first conversation with the team, I felt genuinely welcome and immediately part of the project in a highly professional and ambitious environment.”

“The program for 2027 is especially exciting, and I can’t wait to contribute to this new chapter and help write the next stages of history together.” The French will compete in 2027 with a revised hypercar.
Schwarzman as the “ideal fit” for Peugeot
In combination with Schwarzman, Peugeot hopes for great success. “He is undoubtedly one of the most promising talents of his generation and already has a wealth of experience gained at the highest level in both formula and endurance racing,” says team principal Emmanuel Esnault.
“His natural speed, adaptability, and maturity make him an ideal fit for our project. He is already fully involved in preparing our program for 2027 and will play an important role in the future of the team.”
