– At the renowned auction house RM Sotheby’s, several Formula 1 cars are once again going under the hammer, including two legendary racing cars from Italy: a rare Ferrari 312 T3 from the 1978 season and a Ferrari 642 from 1991.

The Ferrari 312 T3 from 1978 is one of the oldest surviving examples and is expected to fetch a sale price between 4,5 and 5,5 million euros. The rare racing car was driven in the 1978 Formula 1 season by twelve-time Grand Prix winner Carlos Reutemann in a total of four races.
Another highlight: Gilles Villeneuve was at the wheel at the 1979 Argentine Grand Prix. However, the expected price of the 312 T3 is also so high because only five examples of the legendary chassis from the 1978 season exist.
The special model received the coveted Ferrari Classiche certification in 2025. With this, the Italians have confirmed the authenticity of the vehicle. The Ferrari 312 T3 thus follows in the footsteps of its successor, the Ferrari 312 T4 from the 1979 season, which was auctioned at RM Sotheby’s in Monaco in 2024 for 7,655 million euros.
Ferrari 642 expected to fetch up to four million euros
Also extremely rare is the Ferrari 642 from the 1991 Formula 1 season, whose value is estimated at three to four million euros. The car is one of only five examples built. With its 3,5-liter V12 engine, which later formed the basis for the engine of the Ferrari F50, it is considered one of the most attractive Formula 1 racing cars of its time.
Chassis number 125 served as a spare car for Alain Prost and Jean Alesi at the Brazilian and San Marino Grands Prix and received the Ferrari Classiche certificate as early as 2012. However, the model is by no means intended only for a collection.

With an additional rear wing, jacks, starter, tire warmers, and several spare tires, the Ferrari 642 is ideal for entering Ferrari’s renowned F1 Clienti program – including regular track days with the Scuderia’s rarest racing cars.
Three more Formula 1 cars for sale
In addition to the two Ferraris, three more Formula 1 rarities will go under the hammer on April 25, including the Toleman TG183B with which Ayrton Senna made his debut in the premier class in the 1984 season. The car is expected to achieve a price of nearly four million euros.
The Fittipaldi F6/A from the 1979 season, which was driven exclusively by Emerson Fittipaldi and finished seventh at the race in Watkins Glen, is also for sale. The value of this car is estimated at 500.000 to 700.000 euros; it was most recently used in historic races.

The RM Sotheby’s offering is rounded off by a show car of the Jordan EJ13, a static replica of the legendary car with which Giancarlo Fisichella won the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix. The price is estimated at up to 150.000 euros.
