– Cadillac had already attracted attention before its official Formula 1 debut in Australia: The American racing team presented the design of the two cars driven by Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas with a commercial during the Super Bowl halftime show.

The asymmetrical design with a light and a dark side of the car was reminiscent of the distinctive livery of British American Racing (BAR) from the 1999 season. However, since the Austrian Grand Prix, the black-and-white split livery at Cadillac has already become history again.
“We introduced the asymmetrical livery during the Super Bowl halftime show because we thought it was another way to show that the team wants to approach Formula 1 a little differently,” explains team principal Graeme Lowdon.

“We said we would try to bring some new ideas into Formula 1. I think that was a very positive step, and we ran with this livery for a while.” However, Cadillac subsequently appeared with special liveries both in Miami and Silverstone.
“Fan reactions were consistently very positive”
“The Miami livery was very well received by the fans, and we took that into account,” adds Lowdon. “The livery we are now using is actually quite similar to that Miami livery. In between, we also introduced the special livery for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.”

For the Cadillac team principal, the design mainly has symbolic character: “If you look at our team – not only with the liveries but also with the updates – we are among the teams that have brought the most upgrades to the car,” emphasizes Lowdon.
“I think that simply reflects the way we approached our entry into Formula 1,” says the American with regard to the design. “It was never just about getting here at all. It was always about coming into Formula 1 as a team and doing what all the other teams do: pushing the boundaries.”

“We are not just sitting back – neither in the development of the car nor in experimenting with the livery,” explains the Cadillac team principal why the asymmetrical design has now disappeared: “And as I said: The fan reactions were consistently very positive.”
