– Since 2019 and thus currently in its eighth year, the motorcycles of all teams in the Moto2 World Championship have been powered by standardized engines from the brand Triumph. For the upcoming 2027 season, there is a completely new engine. Key points are a power increase of six percent and a weight reduction of two kilograms.

The new Moto2 engine will also be a three-cylinder engine from Triumph. The corresponding announcement was made during the British Grand Prix in Silverstone. However, Triumph wants to reveal the exact displacement of the new engine at a later date. The engine used since 2019 has a displacement of 765 cubic centimeters.
Thanks to a new cylinder head with a completely newly developed valve train and new flow channels, more air flows into the cylinders in the new Moto2 engine. A newly designed combustion chamber helps to achieve a higher compression ratio with more torque across the entire rev range.
Triumph has also redesigned the crankcase and all internal components to both accommodate the additional power and higher torque, and at the same time to ensure the reliability known for years will continue in the future.
“Since we started supplying engines to the middle World Championship class in 2019, we have always strived to further develop Moto2 as a whole,” says Steve Sargent from Triumph. “The developments on the cylinders, which ensure better air supply, a higher compression ratio, and more torque, have been expertly implemented. We are thrilled with the results.”

According to Sargent, the new engine has undergone “an intensive testing program that has allowed us to thoroughly evaluate its performance and reliability, so that it continues to deliver the racing quality we have seen in the past seven seasons.”
The announced introduction of the new engine also has an impact on chassis manufacturers. Because the manufacturers involved in the Moto2 World Championship – Kalex, Boscoscuro, Forward – are forced to develop new chassis for 2027 with the new engine. This particularly affects the positioning of the air intake and the engine mounting points.
Cooperation with the three manufacturers has already been ongoing for a year in this regard. Private test rides by Triumph have already taken place. On September 1 and 2, Tuesday and Wednesday after the race weekend at MotorLand Aragon in Spain, the first official test rides with the engine will take place there with selected teams.

Kalex is sending the Aspar team with David Alonso and Dani Holgado to the Aragon test, although both will move up to the premier class MotoGP in the 2027 season. Boscoscuro relies on Celestino Vietti and Luca Lunetta. Forward will participate in the two-day test of the new engine with Alex Escrig and a second, not yet confirmed, rider.
