Dörr Motorsport brings GT3 McLaren to the start with three DTM legends

– Dörr Motorsport returns this year with the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo to the Nürburgring Nordschleife: After the racing team from Frankfurt decided against using the GT3 car last year and instead used the McLaren Artura Trophy Evo, they are now returning to the SP9 class.

The team relies on a high-caliber and surprising driver lineup: Because alongside former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock and McLaren junior driver Ben Dörr, who also race for the Frankfurt team in the DTM, motorsport veteran Volker Strycek and two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider take the wheel of the British GT3 car.

Strycek and Scheider know each other from the past and even won the 24 Hours of Nürburgring together in 2003, back then in the Opel Astra V8 Coupe from Phoenix. “It’s something very special to be able to start again with Volker now,” Scheider grins.

“He actively supported me as team principal at Opel both in Formula 3 and in the DTM,” recalls the two-time DTM champion, who started his touring car career with Opel before moving to Audi and winning the DTM title with the Ingolstadt team in 2008 and 2009.

But Glock was also once supported by Opel at the beginning of his career. “I don’t want to miss my time as an Opel junior in Formula 3,” says the now 44-year-old. “I learned an incredible amount for my career, which later led me to Formula 1.”

“In 2003, I also got to know Timo Scheider. I was driving for Opel in Formula 3, he was in the DTM,” Glock recalls that the circle is now closing again, because: “Our common sports director back then: Volker Strycek!”

Strycek is considered a true veteran of German motorsport and secured the very first overall victory in the DTM debut season in 1984. But the native of Essen has also left his mark on the Nordschleife: Last year, Strycek, together with Dörr, achieved his 15th class victory, coming close to the all-time record.
