Assetto Corsa Rally: New Cars, Driving Physics Improvements, Console Version and Features

(MST/Speedmaniacs.de) – After EA and Codemasters prematurely withdrew with EA Sports WRC and Nacon and Kylotonn will not launch the official game for the FIA World Rally Championship, working title WRC 2027, before next year at the earliest, Supernova Games Studios currently holds the pole position in the rally game genre, which includes several titles over the years, with Assetto Corsa Rally, which started as an Early Access title in November 2025.

If the rhythm of the currently bi-monthly Early Access updates is maintained, the release version 1.0 will be reached in spring 2027. Depending on the progress of development work and internal plans, the schedule may change. Where the focus lies in the coming weeks and months was recently revealed by Game Director Irvin Zonca.

Since no vehicles were included in the current Early Access version 0.5, version 0.6 is expected to introduce three all-wheel-drive vehicles, one from a French manufacturer and the other two from a German car brand. Due to the still pending final approval, more detailed information about which cars these are remains confidential for now. If possible, Zonca would also like to make the two Fiat rally cars Uno Turbo and Abarth X1/9 Prototipo accessible at a later date.

Further improvements for driving physics and tire model

It is practically true for all developers of racing simulations that the work on improving driving behavior is never finished. In the search for the perfect virtual imitation of how vehicles behave in reality and what feedback they give to the driver in different situations, time, especially development time, is required.

The path already taken with past updates to improve the throttle system and the tire model will continue. “In June, we conducted another field test together with the University of Naples. We equipped another car with gravel tires to specifically collect more data on the tires. This way, we continuously improve and fully exploit the potential for further development of the simulator. And we will do this not only until 1.0 but also beyond,” said Zonca in a recent Q&A session with the community.

Console version and features the studio is working on

While sim racers cannot avoid using a force-feedback steering wheel and there is now a wide selection of steering wheels, pedal sets, and more available for consoles, the gamepad remains an alternative and often more accessible control option for many games. Supernova Games Studios also takes this into account.

“Even though Assetto Corsa Rally was created as a simulator, we all just want to enjoy a nice rally game, so we will definitely continue to improve driving with the gamepad – this is one of the most important topics in our team. For version 1.0, which will also be released for consoles, we want to further improve the game so that the car is easier to control both when steering and when accelerating and braking,” Zonca confirms that work is being done on gamepad support and that ACR will also come to consoles.

Regarding game features, VR functionality is expected to be available towards the end of 2026. While the first phase of the online multiplayer mode started with EA 0.5, the title is also planned to get an asynchronous club mode in the future. However, the timing of this is still open.

Another topic the developers are working on is vehicle designs. For the officially included rally cars, they want to offer more variety. Their own vision is that Supernova Games Studios will provide official designs if possible, while simultaneously simplifying in-game support for liveries created by players or modding groups.
