– For his debut at the Indianapolis 500 (May 24), Mick Schumacher will face female competition. British driver Katherine Legge has been confirmed as the 33rd participant for the 110th edition of the IndyCar Series’ season highlight. The field for the race, often referred to as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” is now complete.

Legge returns to the Indy 500 after a one-year break. She will drive the No. 11 Chevrolet. The entry is fielded by HMD Motorsports in cooperation with AJ Foyt Racing.
“We have worked incredibly hard to be back at this year’s Indianapolis 500, and I don’t take a moment of it for granted,” explained the 45-year-old Legge.
This is Legge’s fifth participation in the Indy 500. Her last appearance was in 2024 with Dale Coyne Racing. At that time, she had to retire after 22 laps due to a mechanical defect and was classified 29th.

She made her debut in 2012, qualifying as the ninth woman ever for the race and finishing 22nd, which remains her best result to date. In 2023, she also set a record by becoming the fastest woman ever to qualify for the race, with an average speed of 231.07 mph (371.87 km/h).
“Honestly, it feels like Christmas to be back at the 500. Every time I return, I develop a deeper appreciation for what it takes not only to compete here but to even get the chance,” says Legge.
Most recently, the Briton made headlines in 2025 when she qualified for a NASCAR Cup Series race, becoming the first woman since Danica Patrick’s debut in 2012 to do so. This made her the first woman in seven years to start a race in the Cup Series.
