Already on Saturday, IndyCar recorded the fuel levels of the vehicles. These will be refilled to their previous levels before the second race. The tire codes are recorded anyway, the same tires must be used.
This is not the first time in the IndyCar series that a race had to be interrupted and another completed in the meantime. On June 12, 2016, the race at Texas Motor Speedway had to be stopped after 71 of 248 laps. The interruption lasted an incredible 76 days due to the full calendar before the caravan returned to Fort Worth and completed the remaining 177 laps. In the meantime, six other races took place.
At least it looks like the rain area has passed for now. Due to the supporting program, the IndyCar race could not be postponed further. The original report from the night of Saturday to Sunday:
Mick Schumacher and co. have to spend the night to Sunday without having achieved anything. The first of the two races at the Milwaukee Mile had to be interrupted after 90 laps due to the onset of rain. The Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250 will now continue on Sunday at 15:00 CEST, but the weather forecast there is also not promising.
Mick Schumacher (RLL-Honda) is overnighting in 18th place. Starting from 13th on the grid, he lost one place to Marcus Ericsson (Andretti-Honda) in the first lap and then another to the field-plowing Rinus “VeeKay” van Kalmthout (Juncos-Chevrolet). He then stabilized in 15th and kept up as the last car in a pack of about ten vehicles. All behind him had to drop off.
The team opted for an overcut, which did not pay off. Schumacher lost ground to several opponents due to the later pit stop but fought his way back up to P17 before the rain started. However, he was slowly in danger of losing the lead lap due to the lost positions during the pit stop, so the subsequent yellow phase was welcome for him.

In the 65th of 250 laps, the caution was called, which led to the stoppage. Schumacher came in for another pit stop along with Alex Palou, Scott Dixon (both Ganassi-Honda), David Malukas, Scott McLaughlin (both Penske-Chevrolet), Christian Rasmussen (ECR-Chevrolet), and Santino Ferrucci (Foyt-Chevrolet). As a result, he lost only one position but now has fresh tires.
No good weather prospects for Sunday
Patricio “Pato” O’Ward (McLaren-Chevrolet) is overnighting as the leader in Milwaukee. The polesitter led in the early phase and fended off attacks from Josef Newgarden (Penske-Chevrolet).
However, Felix Rosenqvist (MSR-Honda) proved to be the strongest driver in the early phase. Starting from fifth on the grid, the Indy 500 winner took the lead after about 30 laps and pulled away. At the first pit stop, he stayed out longer than O’Ward and was overtaken by him shortly after the stop.
Alexander Rossi (ECR-Chevrolet) is in third place, having gained many positions through an undercut. However, he has to manage the restart with the oldest tires in the field – on a track where wear is enormous. Newgarden is overnighting in fourth.
On Sunday, besides finishing the Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250, the second race must also be run, which will then be called only Snap-on at Milwaukee Mile (without Makers and Fixers). Mick Schumacher will start that race from fourth on the grid.
Since further rain is forecast for Sunday, it may happen that the race weekend extends into Monday. Then it is expected to be sunny at least from noon.
