As a result of his highsider in the sprint of the France weekend in Le Mans, Marquez missed both the Sunday race there and subsequently the entire race weekend of the Catalonia Grand Prix in Barcelona.
In the crash on May 9, Saturday in Le Mans, the reigning MotoGP world champion broke the metatarsal bone in the little toe of his right foot. Marquez’s right shoulder was not injured again in this crash, but a surgery that was already planned was scheduled on May 10 together with the foot surgery.
The reason Marquez also had surgery on his shoulder was that a screw from a previous operation was pressing on a nerve and causing pain that occasionally limited him, especially when riding his MotoGP bike.

After the double surgery, Marquez is now quoted in the Ducati press release for the Italian Grand Prix on Wednesday as follows: “Recovery is progressing as expected. I have started training normally again in the past few days. I will primarily go on track to check my actual feeling and physical condition on the Desmosedici GP.”

On his social media accounts, Marquez has posted videos showing him lifting weights with his right arm. However, this time he was not seen training on a motorcycle, neither on a motocross track nor on a paved circuit.
“Both operations went well, but we are proceeding with due caution and will have the final medical examinations conducted at the race track,” Marquez explains looking ahead to Thursday in Mugello, where he will be examined by MotoGP doctor Angel Charte.
Is it sensible to return to the saddle of his MotoGP bike on such a demanding track as the one in Tuscany? Marquez explains: “Mugello is an incredible race track. It is true that it is also very demanding. But the support of all Ducatisti will be an additional motivation to perform well.”
Ducati celebrates its hundredth anniversary at the home race this weekend. On this occasion, the factory machines of Marc Marquez and teammate Francesco Bagnaia, who is fit again himself, will once again feature a special design on Sunday.
