MotoGP winners list grows: Only four regular riders still waiting

– The 2026 MotoGP season is entering its decisive phase, and the field of riders is becoming increasingly diverse among the winners. After Ai Ogura’s maiden victory at the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen, only four of the 22 regular riders remain without a win in a MotoGP main race.

Pedro Acosta is particularly in focus. The KTM rider has finished on the podium three times this season but still has not won a MotoGP main race.

Acosta is competing in his third season in the premier class in 2026. Despite his undisputed talent, the Spaniard is still waiting for his first Grand Prix victory. Especially remarkable: Acosta is now the rider of the MotoGP era with the most podiums without having won a main race.

His problem is not least the equipment. The KTM is not competitive enough in 2026, while Acosta regularly extracts significantly more from the machine than his brand colleagues Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, and Maverick Vinales.

While some of these riders struggle to reach the top 10 or even the points positions, Acosta repeatedly fights at the front. He gave a taste of his potential already at the season opener in Thailand when he won the sprint race against Marc Marquez. That raised hopes that Acosta could also fight for his first Grand Prix win this year.

However, this opportunity has not yet arisen. The two-time world champion will nevertheless continue to try to make the decisive step before his switch to Ducati. From 2027, Acosta will ride for the Italian manufacturer and is likely to have significantly better chances of winning there.

Only three other regular riders still winless

Besides Acosta, Luca Marini, Diogo Moreira, and Toprak Razgatlioglu are also still waiting for their first MotoGP win. Marini will leave Honda at the end of the season and switch to Tech3 in 2027. There, the Italian is expected to ride a KTM.

Moreira is one of the two rookies of the 2026 season and could even make the jump to the official Honda team in the future. The second rookie without a win is Razgatlioglu.

The three-time Superbike world champion remains with Pramac and thus faces another challenge. He still has to get used to the still inferior Yamaha M1 with a V4 engine and prove that he can convert his exceptional talent into wins in MotoGP as well.

Ogura the latest maiden winner in MotoGP

The fact that only four riders remain without a win is mainly due to another maiden victory this season. Ogura celebrated his first MotoGP win in Assen. At the same time, the Trackhouse rider ended a long Japanese drought in the premier class. Before him, Makoto Tamada was the last Japanese rider to win in MotoGP, and that was at the home race in Motegi in 2004.

Before the British Grand Prix, Ogura was even only 14 points behind the championship lead. At Silverstone, he then made his first mistake of the season. After the race, his deficit to the top is 37 points. Nevertheless, Ogura has firmly established himself among the MotoGP winners.

Last year, there were two maiden winners: Gresini-Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer won the Indonesian Grand Prix, Raul Fernandez triumphed in Australia.

The development shows how balanced the current MotoGP field is. Of the 22 regular riders in the 2026 season, 18 have now won at least one main race. At the top of the current win statistics is Marc Marquez with 76 MotoGP victories. Following him are Pecco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo.

Trackhouse strong, title duel Aprilia vs. Ducati?

Trackhouse has recently been particularly strong. The Aprilia satellite team has sometimes even outperformed the factory team in recent races. Ogura won in Assen, teammate Raul Fernandez followed up in Silverstone.

Like Ogura, the Spaniard is also not completely out of the title race. Fernandez is in sixth place and 56 points behind leader Jorge Martin. With ten races still to go, this deficit is quite catchable.

At the top of MotoGP, the duel between Aprilia and Ducati remains particularly interesting. The RS-GP is currently considered the strongest overall package on certain tracks. Its advantages become apparent especially in fast corners and with high tire wear, as recently seen in Silverstone.

Ducati was able to reduce the gap again before the summer break. Especially Marc Marquez delivered important results after his return. On tracks like Balaton Park, Brno, and the Sachsenring, number 93 struck and impressively reasserted himself in the title fight.

Martin, however, continues to lead the overall standings. At Silverstone, he was even able to extend his lead. Marquez lost ground on a difficult weekend and is likely to attack again on tracks like Aragon.

Marco Bezzecchi also made a comeback in Great Britain. Despite physical problems, the Italian found his form again and ended a difficult phase.
