– The rumor that has been intensively discussed in recent weeks is now officially confirmed: Mick Schumacher will compete in the 2027 season for the Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) team. After his debut season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL), the German is joining the Indy 500 winning team of 2021 and 2026.

Schumacher will take over the cockpit of the Dallara-Honda #66 at MSR and will give up his usual starting number 47. In return, he brings his previous RLL main sponsor Enve Composites to MSR. The change was necessary because RLL sold its charter #47 for the 2027 season to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and Louis Foster did not buy out his contract.
The change is part of an internal team swap: Marcus Armstrong, who previously drove the #66, moves within the team to the sister car #60. He takes over the place of Felix Rosenqvist, who will race his last race for the team this weekend at the season finale at Laguna Seca Raceway (All info on the 2026 IndyCar finale!).
“A very special path”
“I am extremely proud and excited to work with everyone at Meyer Shank Racing and to join such an ambitious team,” Schumacher explains.
“It will be a very special journey. I look forward to what I can still learn from the team. The team has already achieved great success, and of course, it is great to join a team that has won the Indy 500.”
Team owner Mike Shank is also convinced of the qualities of his new recruit: “Mick really impressed us in his first IndyCar season. It is not an easy series to enter as a rookie, and the level of competition is extremely high. When you see what he has achieved and the progress he has made over the year, we see huge potential in him.”
Above all, Schumacher’s learning curve on ovals was decisive for MSR: “He showed a lot of speed on the ovals – which is a huge hurdle for any driver without oval experience. He adapted extremely quickly, and we are excited to see what he can achieve with another year of experience and our team behind him.”
Enve Composites joins MSR
Along with Schumacher, Meyer Shank Racing is also presenting a new partner for the 2027 season: The US company Enve Composites, a manufacturer of high-end carbon components for cycling, is expanding its commitment in motorsport.

Enve is known, among other things, as a supplier to the cycling team UAE Team Emirates, with which Tadej Pogacar has won five overall victories at the Tour de France. Through its own motorsport division, the brand is already involved in USF2000 and Indy NXT.

After the 2026 season finale at Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey, California, where Schumacher is still fighting for a place in the points standings, the full focus at MSR and Schumacher is on the coming year. The first joint race of Mick Schumacher and Marcus Armstrong as teammates will take place at the 2027 IndyCar season opener at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida from March 5 to 7.
Learning year with oval highlights at RLL
With the move to MSR, Schumacher rewards himself for a rookie season 2026 at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing that has become very promising after a difficult start. The former Formula 1 driver and Formula 2 champion adapted surprisingly quickly, especially to the oval tracks.
In qualifying at Phoenix Raceway and in the second race at Milwaukee Mile, he qualified his car in fourth place each time. His best race result so far was eighth place at Nashville Superspeedway.
At the legendary Indianapolis 500 in May, he finished right away: In his debut on the superspeedway, the German completed the full 200 laps without error and immediately secured the title of “Indy 500 Rookie of the Year.”

On the road and street courses, the season was more difficult, but recently an improvement has also been noticeable here. At the season finale, he now has the chance to finish in the top 10 outside the “oval bowls” for the first time.
