RaceRoom: Latest update with physics model and netcode improvements

(MST/Speedmaniacs.de) – A 2.2 GB update is now available for RaceRoom, bringing the PC racing simulation to V0.9.7.72. As a new feature, simracers will now find a Championships tab in the leaderboard multiplayer menu, where initially DTM Esports 2026 is selectable as the first championship in the new format.

In the area of racing simulation, the side-draft model has been revised and now correctly distinguishes between three cases: free driving, slipstream behind a vehicle, and lateral airflow beside a vehicle.

When driving in the slipstream of another car, you still have reduced air resistance, and the air resistance of the car ahead slightly decreases as you fill the low-pressure area behind it. New is the lateral airflow itself. When positioned beside and slightly behind the car ahead, about half to three-quarters of a car length, additional air resistance is created for the car ahead. The overtaking vehicle is not penalized.

The effect is strongest when the two vehicles are side by side very close and gradually diminishes as the distance increases. On a long straight, the overtaken vehicle loses some top speed as long as you are beside it, which affects how side-by-side driving and late braking before the next corner play out.

With V0.9.7.72, KW Studios also delivers the first stage of a major overhaul of netcode performance. From now on, every dedicated server requires less bandwidth. Next up is CPU usage, with the long-term goal of enabling larger online networks without sacrificing stability.
