Always included: its new V8 engine. And now we can hear it for the first time in a new prototype video. Instagram users Carspotterjeroen and Wilcoblok spotted the still camouflaged Toyota GR GT on its test laps, hit “Record” directly, and published the video. Thanks for that, because it sounds really juicy.
Biturbo V8 with 650 hp
The GR GT is powered by a new biturbo V8, combined with an electric motor integrated into the transaxle gearbox. The stated output is 650 hp, with a maximum torque of 850 Nm.
So, everyone still with me after this overture of the eight-cylinder? Then we can continue: Because Toyota currently considers these figures as the minimum target for the project. The production vehicle, expected during 2027, could even surpass these numbers.
After all, after all the laps, there is surely still something to be found here and there. The transmission works with eight automatically shifted gears, and the rear axle is driven – a decision that is meant to underline the claim to a true supercar.

Chassis designed for low weight
The GR GT is based on three basic principles: low center of gravity, low weight, and high structural rigidity. To achieve these goals, Toyota is using a fully aluminum chassis for the first time, while the body combines components made of carbon and aluminum. The curb weight is expected to be under 1,750 kilograms.

However, the GR GT project might not remain limited to the standard version. The prototypes recently photographed during tests at the Nürburgring show a significantly more aggressive aerodynamic configuration. It is possible that the upgrade of this model also affects other areas, such as suspension, dampers, steering, electronic tuning, and weight. Of course, a revision of the 4.0-liter V8 is also not excluded.
Additionally, the Japanese magazine X reported that only around 500 units are planned to be built. So the GR GT will not only sound really fat but also be really rare. Furthermore, a starting price of “200,000 euros plus” is being discussed. What won’t one do to regularly enjoy the sound of a V8.
