– The IndyCar race control announced a penalty after the 110th Indianapolis 500 due to a violation during the technical post-race inspection. Affected is the #10 Honda of IndyCar champion and dominator Alex Palou from the Chip Ganassi Racing team.

The IndyCar officials stated in a press release: “During the technical inspection of car No. 10 after the race, IndyCar race control found that the front wing of car No. 10 did not pass the height measurement of the front wing.
Chip Ganassi violated the following rule concerning the endplates of the Speedway front wing – minimum and maximum heights:

– Rule 14.7.6.8: The front wing must comply with the following dimensions during the technical inspection.
– Rule 14.7.6.7.1: For the purposes of the technical inspection, the front wing must not be less than 8.300 inches (approximately 21 centimeters) in height when mounted at any angle on the IndyCar test fixture.

“IndyCar race control has determined that the non-compliance was the result of an assembly error and not an intentional modification. The #10 will be penalized with a deduction of five championship points in the driver and team standings, and the team will also be fined $10,000.”

The four-time and current IndyCar champion Palou, who traveled to the Indy 500 as the defending champion, started from pole position, and led the most laps of the race with 59 out of 200, retains his seventh place in this year’s “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”.
Statement from Chip Ganassi Racing
The response from Chip Ganassi Racing after the post-race inspection: “During the technical inspection after the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, a component failure was found on the front wing assembly of the #10 car.”
“This defect caused the wing to no longer comply with IndyCar’s technical parameters after the race, resulting in a $10,000 fine and a deduction of five points in the championship standings. Chip Ganassi Racing did not attempt to gain an unfair advantage in the race and accepts this penalty.”
