A mere two-second clip on Christopher DeHarde’s X channel shows the angry Schumacher leaning over Grosjean’s cockpit. Grosjean is just trying to climb out of the car, and you only hear a brief “Sorry.” Schumacher storms off shaking his head.
Soon after, the emotions have settled and the two talk again – this time much more amicably. It doesn’t take long before the matter ends with a handshake and a hug. Not much of the conversation can be heard, only once Grosjean says: “I wanted to get between you two.” He means Schumacher and his teammate Louis Foster.
When asked if everything is okay now, Grosjean pays respect to Schumacher: “He’s really good on ovals!” Indeed, Mick Schumacher has delivered his most convincing performances in the 2026 IndyCar season on ovals, where it was least expected.
Schumacher: “Never been cut off like this before”
Nevertheless, Schumacher’s frustration was deep at first. Speaking to Frontstretch Open Wheel before the final discussion took place, the German had strong words about the incident: “That contact was crazy. I’ve never been cut off like that by anyone in my entire life.”
He also brought up Grosjean’s reputation from Formula 1, where he was even excluded from races due to accidents: “He has already had experience with this in the past, and you would actually think someone would learn from it.”
Especially on an oval, Schumacher lacks understanding: “I don’t think that’s real racing. I drove with a lot of frustration afterward because it was simply unnecessary. Luckily, we kept the car away from the wall. At one point, I honestly thought I was going to crash into the wall at the pit entry.”

At least the twelfth place at the finish reconciled the RLL driver with the race result, even though you get the feeling that much more was possible. While Schumacher was still complaining about the strategy over the radio during the race, he praises the team afterward for the decision to stay out long:
“The team definitely made the right choice. I was more for the undercut. All the more impressive that the yellow phase came at the right moment and we could get the lap back.”
Grosjean downplays and holds Foster responsible
Grosjean watched the replay of the incident again after the race and did not see the fault solely with himself. The Coyne driver holds Schumacher’s teammate Louis Foster responsible, who was driving directly in front of the duo.
“It’s never good to have contact. I think we were both lucky,” says Grosjean. “I felt that #45 Louis Foster just pulled right in front of my car. I had to swerve left, otherwise I would have crashed full force into him with my momentum. Unfortunately, Mick was there.”

However, the Frenchman does not completely absolve himself of blame: “Maybe I had understeer, maybe I cut the line, yes. I was just trying not to crash into Louis.”
