(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – Denza, BYD’s premium brand, is showcasing the Denza Z as a four-seater convertible at Auto China in Beijing. The car offers over 750 kW of power from three motors and ultra-fast Flash Charging. The car is initially planned for introduction in Europe and only then in China.

CarNewsChina writes that the Denza Z will be available as a convertible, a coupé, and a racing version. A study of the coupé was already shown in Shanghai in 2025; after that, spy shots of the closed racing version with a huge rear wing from the Nürburgring emerged. Now Denza presents the open variant. This one has a fabric soft top and was designed under the direction of BYD chief designer Wolfgang Egger, who previously worked at Audi.
Denza is still quite secretive about the technology. The manufacturer promises more than 1,000 hp, which is over 750 kW. This should allow the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than two seconds. According to CarNewsChina, the car is based on the E3 platform, which also underpins the Denza Z9GT, and like it, gets an all-wheel drive system consisting of three motors called “Yi Sanfang”. For comparison: The Denza Z9GT, which as a Gran Turismo is probably heavier than the Z (at least as a coupé), needs 2.7 seconds for the standard sprint with its 850 kW drive.
The Denza Z features a lightweight body and a “DiSus-M” chassis with magnetorheological shock absorbers. This means that the viscosity of the hydraulic oil in the dampers can be changed by applying a magnetic field, which in turn affects the damping hardness. According to CarNewsChina, the car also has a steer-by-wire system. The air ducting on the front hood with the air intake is designed to increase downforce at high speeds. The air intakes in front of the rear wheels are also striking.

In addition, the car will be equipped with a second-generation Blade Battery, which enables the aforementioned Flash Charging with up to 1,500 kW. The Denza Z is expected to have its European premiere in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Great Britain. Then we might also learn an approximate price. The Denza Z is likely to be in a similar price range as the Z9GT, which is already available for purchase in Germany starting from 115,000 Euros.
Apart from the mentioned air intakes, the Denza Z has a simple, classic sports car design. While the Z9GT still had electrically retractable door handles, which will soon be banned in China, the two long doors of the Z already feature recessed handles. Large brake discs and yellow brake calipers are visible through the airy rims.

The cockpit features an instrument display housed in a classic cowl, as well as a free-standing touchscreen. There is also a high center console with a start button. Numerous physical controls are also visible, for example, in the form of a small keyboard below the central display.
In addition to the Denza Z, the BYD Group is showcasing numerous other electric cars in Beijing, from the Ocean V SUV study to the 5.12-meter-long Sealion 08 electric SUV with 480 kW and various vehicles from the Fangchengbao brand, up to the production version of the Yangwang U9 Xtreme. BYD also focuses on Flash Charging and the second-generation Blade Battery.

Bottom Line
BYD’s electric bestseller in Germany is the small Dolphin Surf; larger models like the Seal or Sealion 7 also play a role. The Denza Z9GT and Z sports models certainly won’t set new sales records. They show that the group can definitely compete with German premium brands in terms of drive, range, and fast charging. The same applies to the design, as seen with the Denza Z. Nevertheless, it will still take a few years until Chinese manufacturers are considered established brands in Germany. Trust doesn’t grow overnight, and BYD still needs to work on the recognition of its models.
