Russell: Couldn’t have done more
The Brit says on Sky after his exit: “Everything just suddenly failed. I just went into the corner, the engine died, no electronics, no proper braking performance.”
“Honestly, I’m a bit speechless right now,” says Russell, who also emphasizes: “I have to be honest: I’m proud of my weekend.” After all, he won the sprint and took pole.
“For my part, I don’t feel like I could have done more this weekend. So I’m going home satisfied. But of course, I’m damn frustrated about what happened,” he admits.

Stroll: No grip at all
The Canadian describes his impressions of the track on Sky: “No grip. It’s difficult. In cold and rain, it’s so hard to get these tires up to operating temperature.”
“You just can’t get the tires into the optimal temperature range. That will be the challenge: to find some grip out there,” says Stroll. This also applies to the slicks.
All on the grid
Slicks are the tires of choice. Although some drivers tried intermediates, in the end everyone lined up on dry tires.
So if there’s no more rain, it looks like a start on slicks. The race starts in 30 minutes.
Drivers test tires
Verstappen first had intermediates on, but has now come back to the pits to get slicks for another test lap. That is allowed. Drivers don’t have to go straight to the grid.
Pit lane open
40 minutes to the start and now the pit lane opens in Montreal. Drivers have ten minutes to make their way to the grid.
Important info: Some drivers go out on slicks, others on intermediates. Exciting!
Strong wind
Not only possible rain could play a role today – but also the wind. It blows from the same direction as the previous days, but much stronger.
“It’s very windy, with strong gusts, especially in turn 1,” reports expert Jamie Chadwick on Sky and emphasizes: “Even if it’s dry, it will be a very demanding race.”
Light rain
It’s still drizzling in Montreal. The colleagues on site say, however, that you would probably still start on slicks because the track is (still) not wet enough for intermediates.
The race starts in just over an hour.

Will there be trouble at Mercedes again?
Yesterday in the sprint it got a bit tight between Russell and Antonelli. The Brit himself says: “That’s history now.” The goal is to get a one-two today, says Russell.
“But the truth is, it won’t be easy in conditions like these. We’ve seen McLaren is fast,” he warns. Still, Mercedes goes into the race today as the favorite.
Weather update
In less than two hours the race starts in Canada and the driver parade is currently underway in Montreal – and in the rain. So it looks like a wet start again. We’ll keep you updated.

Safety car festival in Formula 2
The Formula 2 feature race is now over, and there were a total of four(!) safety car phases. But: They drove on slicks until the end. So there hasn’t been a bigger rain shower in Montreal yet.
In the end, former McLaren junior Martinius Stenshorne won. Oliver Goethe did not see the checkered flag from a German perspective after a crash.
Stroll starts from the pit lane
We won’t see all 22 cars on the grid today either. Aston Martin announces: “Lance will start today’s race from the pit lane. We have strategically decided to replace the battery and make some other changes to the car setup.”
The local hero doesn’t lose much with this, as he had qualified only 21st and thus second to last. The updated starting grid can be found here.
