The Canadian describes his impressions of the track on Sky: “No grip. It is difficult. In cold and rain it is so hard to get these tires up to operating temperature.”

“You just can’t get the tires into the optimal temperature range. That will be the challenge: to find some grip out there,” says Stroll. This also applies to the slicks.

Slicks are the tires of choice. Although some drivers tried intermediates, in the end everyone drove onto the grid on dry tires.

So if there is no further rain shower, it looks like a start on slicks. It starts in 30 minutes.

Verstappen initially had intermediates on, but has now come back to the pits to get slicks for another practice lap. This is allowed. Drivers do not have to go immediately to the grid.

40 minutes to the start and the pit lane in Montreal now opens. Drivers have ten minutes to make their way to the grid.

Important info: Some drivers go out on slicks, others on intermediates. Exciting!

Not only possible rain could play a role today – but also the wind. It blows from the same direction as in previous days, but much stronger.

“It is very windy, with strong gusts, especially in turn 1,” reports expert Jamie Chadwick on Sky and emphasizes: “Even if it is dry, it will be a very demanding race.”

It is still drizzling in Montreal. The colleagues on site say, however, that you would probably still start on slicks because the track is (still) not wet enough for intermediates.

It starts in just over an hour.

This summer the soccer World Cup takes place in Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Therefore, FIFA President Gianni Infantino visited Formula 1 today – and brought the World Cup trophy along for some nice photos.

Yesterday in the sprint it got a bit tight between Russell and Antonelli. The Brit himself says about it: “That is history now.” The goal is to get a one-two finish today, says Russell.

“But the truth is that it won’t be easy in conditions like these. We have seen that McLaren is fast,” he warns. Nevertheless, Mercedes is of course again the favorite for today’s race.

In less than two hours it starts in Canada and the driver parade is currently running in Montreal – and in the rain. So it currently looks like a start in the wet again. We will keep you updated.

The main race of Formula 2 is now over, and there were a total of four(!) safety car phases. But: They drove on slicks until the end. So there has been no bigger rain shower in Montreal so far.

In the end, former McLaren junior Martinius Stenshorne won. Oliver Goethe did not see the checkered flag from a German perspective after a crash.

We will not see all 22 cars on the grid today either. Aston Martin announces: “Lance will start today’s race from the pit lane. We have strategically decided to replace the battery and make some other changes to the car setup.”

The local hero does not lose much, as he had qualified only 21st and thus second last anyway. The updated starting grid can be found here.

A quick weather update again from Montreal: The Formula 2 race is currently running – and in dry conditions. It is drizzling a bit, but all drivers have been on slicks since the start.

The question now is whether there will be a bigger rain shower before the race start in about 3.5 hours.

The third and last race of the F1 Academy is meanwhile over and Mathilda Paatz finished her good weekend in Canada with fifth place.

The win went, as in the first race, to Red Bull-supported Alisha Palmowski, who also leads the championship.

Austrian Emma Felbermayr (Audi) finished second and thus consolidated her second place in the championship.
